laserblazer Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Where do you get yours? My Green Flag has just come up for renewal and it's gone up a fair bit. So it's shopping around time.
bossman Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 @creese: Ditto free with Barclay's platinum account plus a myriad of other freebies.
john Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I don't bother with it, my car is German and thus never breaks-down But if I chose to get some, I'd go for The AA I'm not posh (or rich) enough to bother with these premier bank accounts that give it "free"
mac_shinobi Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 pretty sure I am with ic breakdown Breakdown Cover and Breakdown Insurance - UK Rescue and Recovery, car breakdown, motorcycle breakdown, van breakdown, taxi breakdown, courier breakdown, minibus breakdown, motorhome breakdown, cover, insurance, quote, UK
Andrew_C Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 The Lloyds one does require a certain level of income, but it isn't expensive to get the "free" motor cover. I was already with the AA when I "upgraded" my bank account. What the AA cover would cost me (Relay & Homestart) pays for nearly all the account charge. Thus all the other 'useful' extras are free. Having some sort of cover is also cheap compared to just one tow off a motorway!
mtdmitchell Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I use AutoAid. It's an insurance service, but bear with me. You break down, then phone AutoAid. They arrange a local recovery service. You pay the recovery service, either with a card or they can send you an invoice. You then send the bill to Autoaid and they reimburse you. From personal experience, I recommend them. If you're married, they automatically include your spouse. They cover all cars in your household (for a few years I was covering two cars and a camper van). I've used them twice and they were excellent. It's £36 per year. If works out well if you have a few vehicles to cover and you're married! I second AutoAid - they will also pay for the cost of labour/repairs(not parts) if linked to the breakdown. the only downside is the need to pay for it yourself first then claim it back...i have recieved a cheque from autoaid within two weeks each time.
markcuk Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 these guys were good for me Insurance Choice Breakdown Cover - UK Rescue and Recovery, car breakdown, motorcycle breakdown, van breakdown, taxi breakdown, courier breakdown, minibus breakdown, motorhome breakdown, cover, insurance, breakdwon, UK
Mcshammer_dj Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I have been with the RAC for years and they have always been excellent. I get onwards, roadside and recovery. I also have free recovery with my insurance (the nodding dog), AA cover through my Bank and full SEAT recover service with my car.
BatchFile Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I have been with the RAC for years and they have always been excellent. I get onwards, roadside and recovery. I also have free recovery with my insurance (the nodding dog), AA cover through my Bank and full SEAT recover service with my car. So if you break down do they all arrive at once and start fighting over who gets to fix it?
Mcshammer_dj Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 don't really know. I have been a member of RAc for 12 years and will always keep them as My policy covers me and not the car. The Insurance cover is for the named car on the insurance policy and the SEAT cover is part of the warranty on the car as it is new. The AA is for a me only and has limited cover due to the fact that it is through the bank account. personally I would always recommend the RAC. Over the years they have always arrivedquickly and fixed or sorted in great time. One guy even took us to our hotel when we broke down in the middle of lizard point at 11.00pm in Cornwall and then went back to the car and waited for the breakdown truck to arrive!!
Mcshammer_dj Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Have you noticed how breakdown trucks are always 50 minutes away no matter where you are in the country? It's a known geographical phenomenon. whats more interesting is how many of the other companies trucks or van go past once you have made a phone call......
broc Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 We are with Britannia Rescue Breakdown Cover - Britannia Rescue - UK & European breakdown recovery They are part of LV Insurance Group, being a Unison member gets you discount for Britannia Rescue membership & insurance too.
bgarston Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I use Drive 24-7 (Drive 24-7 UK and European Breakdown Insurance). ~£35 for a years cover i think. I've them twice this year, once when supervising students on their Bronze DofE; I was up and running again in less than an hour - brillient! Ben
mac_shinobi Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 It's always good to have cover, no matter how good your car is. All it takes is two flat tyres and you're stuck. All it takes is a vandal student or someone dis gruntled enough, plenty of ways lol
