HI people

Im just after a little information on lanschool and certain senarios

We have a desktop computer in each classroom locked down to mandatory profiles

as i understand lan school runs on a channel system

the problem i have is that we were wanting to control our mobile laptop trolleys via the teachers desktop computer but we have more than one trolley and they are mobile so the trolley they get might be different the next time

to cut a long story short is it possible to change the channel lanschool is using easily for teachers (more than three clicks is getting beyond or teachers skill level)

i wanted to ask before i even bother downloading the trial.

yep its possible. You do it using the preferences from the teacher console.

But when you install it you need to run a little .exe once, this will allow users to change the channel number. By default its locked.

Either that, or you can use student lists which seeks out the students by login name instead of the machines. We use that in some areas where we have laptops shared between rooms, so they could be in use in two different lessons at the same time.

I do believe they have a mode (or did) that allows you to set it so you [the end user] can right click on the icon and select the channel/class they want to be in.

Thanks guys

I really must download the trial now and stop being lazy thanks for the info

the pricing of lanschool is so much cheaper than net support school so it looks like we might be changing over

what impact does lanschool have on your network?

we plan to use this with laptops is this a good idea?

do you have any problems with clients dropping off the control of the teacher (the service crashing) i only ask this because we have trouble with net support school.

We have the client program installed on all 500 of our student desktops - about 75% of these are wireless laptops. It works fine with wireless machines, as long as the controlling teachers machine is hardwired - if the teachers machine and the students machines are all on wireless in the same area, I've found the reliability to be sketchey.

We get the ocassional problem with machines dropping off on wireless, but as soon as the machine is logged back on, it latches into the lanschool console automatically, unlike Net support school based products where the teacher had to manually add dropped workstations - this is a substantial improvement on RM/Ranger/Netsupport.

I've not noticed any impact on the network or performance of the clients with lanschool on - it's a very small program when it's running.

The only thing I will add is the workstation remote control aspects of it are't quite as good as the net support based products - the movement of the mouse and sending of keystrokes to the client is much slower than Net Support, but I guess you can't have everything. We don't use the program much for control more for monitoring so it didn't worry us. Workstations react instantly to other commands like locking the screens etc. It's only the remote control features that have a bit of lag to them.

i noticed the apparent lag while i was running the demo but the program just seems solid to me no crashes as of yet

the remote is only to mess with the kids while they are playing games :)

looking for a reason not to get it but i have not found one yet.

Hi Does anyone know if there is a way to setup teachers to change passwords through lanschool?

Find all your lanschool installer files and run EnableChannelSelect.exe under Windows\Utilities. This make it so the channel option isnt grayed out.

i already have this set?

just need to know if there is an option to change there AD passwords.

as i know you can in emperio and in Ranger

If you mean "account" password no I don't think so. If you mean console password for lanschool yes.
