Staff with access to student areas

We have a a couple of requests for staff to access student userareas. We have said no, but although a hand full of staff do have access.

 

Does anyone allow all teachers to have access to student areas?

This one very much depends on the age-range of your school.

 

In primary it is common practice for staff to be given read-write access to pupil home drives.

 

In secondary, it has to be thought through much more carefully. The biggest gotcha is course-work. In the event of an investigation, exam boards will take a dim view of staff being able to modify students' course work.

All staff have read rights only. Thats how I deall with them here so it stops staff members deleting students work (as has happened in the past)

We give them read only access via a mapped drive where we link subfolders to each year group, which keeps teachers happy and works well. As long as your AUP covers this, then it's fine.

We give staff access, I also have a program that I wrote in vb6 that will open all of their classes folders with one click and another that copies a single file into all of their home directories.

We allow ICT teaching staff Read only access - that's all.

how come you only give it to IT Staff?

 

We're in the process of discussing giving this functionality to staff, however based on my own experience it tends to be the technology department not the IT department that require this. So in my opinion, it should be given to all staff, whereas I'm being told to provide it to only the IT Staff (by an IT Teacher).

I've had this question in the past but after explaining that it would be a major change to Security Policies and a change to the AUP which would require SMT and governors approval they changed their mind. Making them jump through hoops usually works

We give read access only to certain Staff. Last school was the same, read only access to ICT teaching staff.
