Smoothwall caching of i-player

A load of staff want to show the england game on wednesday using i-player so I was thinking about bandwidth. Will our Smoothwall cache the i-player feed or will we just have 20 seperate streams? or does i-player have some special P2P tech that might help in this situation?

Unfortunately, caching of realtime feeds isn't something that's feasible. Now if multicast had ever really caught on...

I thought that might be the case but thought I'd ask. I seem to remember reading something about i-player using some sort of P2P tech but not to worry I'll just have to hope the internet connection holds up.

The desktop iplayer did/does use p2p, but the flash version doesn't

The P2P tech used by the iPlayer Desktop program was from a company called Kontiki. I'm not sure if this is still the case since I just stream programmes from the website.

If you had a capture card connected to a PC, would you be allowed to re-broadcast it on your LAN using a programme like VLC?

Probably not and that's what I've said to the staff

Not sure about allowed but it all sounds like too much effort just so some kids can watch a footy match.

I remember when I was at school for the last world cup we had just had the Promethan boards installed and all have a DVD/VCR hooked up and they just bought some booster aerials and connected them up, how times have changed!!

They are at school get on and learn watch it when you get home I remember a big foot ball thing when i was at school every one made such a fuss.
