Does anyone out there have any experience with using The Basement, a part of RM? The Basement

 

One of our Governors mentioned at a meeting last night that it was possible for pupils to obtain really cheap pricing for Microsoft and Adobe software with a proportion of any sales being paid to the school. Although I was massively sceptical I discovered the above website which claims to send the school 5% if total sales are over £500.

 

Is it as simple as it sounds or too good to be true?

For the students or the school? I don't like RM and I've never heard of Civica but on the face of it pupils getting software at cheap prices and the school finding another revenue stream sounds like a win/win.

I've used The Basement for personal purchases and also recommended friends and colleagues use it too. It's very handy if you need a cheap copy of Office and have kids in education. The CDs always come next day - very quick.

I have a link and logo on our VLE for students to access. I can't tell you how many sales we have had, but I do remember a credit note coming from RM either last year or the year before with our 5% of sales.

I haven't used them myself but I have been recommending them to staff and parents for years. I've don't know how many of those people have used it but I've never had a complaint.

 

When Office 2010 is out, I'm going to buy that through The Basement.

 

If you register with RM, they'll give you the code for a link from your school website so they can track traffic and credit you with the 5%.

I recommend them and have a link on my website for RM The Basement as well, not seen a credit note yet but I don't think its that well used, but I've put it in the heads newsletter again to promote it
