pritchardavid Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Chance the vga cable or whatever cable your using to connect it up, if its not that, its a new bulb job, with if im thinking we have these projectors has well, to be it woould be better buying a new projector and these aint too great

Marc-Engineer Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 It sounds like you have not had this serviced, and it has now burnt the polerising filter, this can be replaced and the projector will also need a deep clean make sure it goes to a proper engineer as setting up a filter can damge your contrast and true black. If you describe the area of yellow, is it all over because as mentioned above it can be a broken wire in the VGA, but if a patch then probably buring. Marc Projector Engineer
10fellowsd Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 it is the lcds burning. cant be fixed. if you want to get a new projector then get the acer x110. the image is superb and because its dlp then its quiet and will never go yellow

Marc Projector Engineer Sorry to highjack the thread but I have a convergance problem on 2 identical projectors. Would this also be the polarising filters? (New lamp did not solve problem just made image much clearer!)

We noticed one had a very bad convergance problem* and decided to borrow a lamp from another at the other end of school only to discover that was the same. * Assuming I'm using the correct term! Anything projected has a duplicate in green just to the left - this is particularly noticeable with menu items such as Focus

Yes and no, I found the filter that causes the yellow tint in the center, and removed it, but now the whole screen is yellowish. So this could also be a cable or blue-LCD panel issue... I will find out as soon as I replace the polerizing filter. Again thanks Marc. Marc Projector Engineer Yes, I have inspected the outter and inner polarizing filters that sandwich the 3 LCD panels, and only one got burnt. By the way, the lamp just gave up the ghost... which explane why there's a blurry video image. Take care Marc.
Marc-Engineer Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 It maybe the lamp is (or was) over its Hrs, as a lamp ages its UV output goes up exponentially this is what burns the filters not as some belive the heat. You must always change the lamps at their rated Hrs anyway let me know how it goes with your emailing the supplier. Marc Projector Engineer
Oaktech Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 usually, dim, or dim with a bright spot in the middle is bulb, pinky tinge, greeny tinge or blue tinge is usally combintations of bad VGA, either colours missing, or colours too high level, yellow tinge is usually panel breakdown due to overheat, brown tinge is usually burnt polaris(z)er due to overheat or UV although these are sometimes mistakeable for each other.
tahi Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 (edited) Hi Marc, The supplier in Irvine, CA, USA (888)307-0309, Opt 2 emailed me an Exposed pdf of the XL8U for ease of parts selection. By looking at the Exploded View of the projector and gave them the name of the part, which they then search for its part number. They do have it in stock for $153.90 USD. The filters comes in a bundle of 3: Red, Green, Blue. I'm debating w/ myself wheather I should fix it or replace it. 'Cause it would come out to $258 for the new lamp and filters. Marc-Engineer Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Well its actually not a bad price but yes you still have to fit them and set them up can be tedious to get right setting up "black" and you MUST wear UV glasses when you do this as it of course has to be done when on ! tahi Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Hi Marc, I just purchased another XL8U the other day, for $62 USD (with S/H). When it arrived, I took it apart and the polarizer-filters are in good condition (I just saved $153.90). It took me 2-3 hours to fix the power supplier, which had a few sheared wires due to heavy impact. Now the projector works like new. Pretty good, huh! Well, thank you for your replies and advices.
