Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 BIOS Passwork Removal

Hello,

One of the students has managed to set a password in the BIOS of a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 so that the we cannot boot without it. I have looked through forums etc and still no luck and Toshibas support company have quoted £90 for a BIOS removal. Any ideas anyone?

Oh, sorry, you meant ideas about how to reset the password. Well, a recent Toshiba Bulletin suggest that a student may not be to blame at all: A "Password =" prompt may be displayed when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set.

 

Saw this mentioned on another forum where someone had an A300 and when they checked with Toshiba, their model was one of those affected. Call Toshiba and see if your model is affected by this bug. You could also check the Toshiba support pages for the exact model to see if there is a BIOS update that mentioned a bug fix for this issue. If so, Toshiba should cover the issue even if the normal warranty is expired.

Have the A300 range still got a parallel port?

 

I've still got my toshiba tool kit from a course over 8+ years ago, and was issued with a parallel port dongle that reset BIOS passwords.

How bizarre - this has just happened to us with 3 A300's that had not even been unboxed - after a lot of prompting from our supplier (big thanks to Roland at Kelway), Toshiba finally told us what to do - though flatly refused to admit there was a problem, even though there are loads of similar stories on the net. Fix pm'd!

hi people im new here, iv been doing research for 8hours none stop. my sis has the tosh sat pro a300 and she has the same prob with the bios password she needs it asap. i was wondering if spuffmonkey could tell me how you fixed it? you can email me or try pm but i dont think that would work as this is my 1st post. any help wellcome. p.s this laptop has vista so no parallell port, when turned on tosh splash screens shows with insyde h2 bios then goes black with enter password in blue. any help please?

As the password is stored in an eeprom chip removing the battery won't help as you've found out.

Exactly what a waste of my time, the last one I did was the L300, and it worked with the removal of the battery for 3 days go figure, and that one had a standard battery so did not have to de-solder then re-solder it

 

Ben you have any further info on to how to get around this

Ive tried everything suggested.... Ive taken the laptop apart completely and removed all kinds of things as suggested butnot luck at all.

This is what we did

 

Please see below the bios password removal method for the Satellite Pro A300 (PSJ1E) series.

 

Satellite Pro A300 (PSAJ1E-)

Remove battery and disconnect the AC-adapter then short pad G1 for a minimum of 30 seconds with a flat-blade screwdriver, the pad is located under the memory module.

This can be accessed from the base of the notebook
