Is there any reason I shouldnt have sophos installed on the machine I am taking an image from? Currently none of our machines are imaged with sophos, and we have to push from the console, which doesnt always work, meaning a manual install..

Is there any page from sophos I can refer to as I would like to include sophos in future images.

We used to do this before the new console was released. It was only until verison 3 of sophos console it stopped working so we had to roll it out after the image was done. It makes more sense to me doing it after the image roll out as we know that sophos is definately on the machine.

What happens is the Enterprise Console agent gets confused when a machine is imaged from another machine, they fight each other to share the same entry in Enterprise Console

Usually on a image I have the standalone Sophos client installed which can then be linked to the console afterwards

Sophos has, but I cannot find it at the moment, a KB article telling you exactly how you can do it as part of your image, just before you sysprep your image you delete a few registry keys that are the euneque ones for that install and then when it connects to the Enterprise Console first time to update it re-places the missing keys with new ones for that individual pc.

Please dont put it on before you image in a few months time it is too out of date to update and so you have to remove it and then reinstall and that extra work.

Ive got a script to install it after just now. I was just wondering if there was a reason it wasnt part of our images. Seems it is. Cheers all for confirming.

I believe the enterprise console will run into problems updating very old clients.

Sounds worth doing just to watch the fight! Do they get dirty?

I used to have so many problems in the past when I attempted to install it on the image that I never bother now, just taken it as a given that it needs to be installed after deployment.

Couple of things to consider when putting sophos on a image. Have a read of this KB article: Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: including Sophos Anti-Virus current versions in a disk image

Thanks, Ill have a play tomorrow. I notice theres a link on the top of that page that goes to Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: how to prepare Sophos Anti-Virus for inclusion in a disk image

Is that just 2 versions of doing the same thing?
