WTB: Job that pays me $1.6m to uninstall Seti@home from 5,000 computers...

(yes i know that their reporting on this subject doesn't necessarily say that, but it's funny to assume it does, and it's just as likely as half of the rest of the things they are claiming!)

lets see, say 10 minutes work per machine, 50 machines per day... 100 days work, that's 20 working weeks...4 months give or take a bit for a single person to uninstall it one machine at a time, and that's being lazy.

A cheap/reliable IT contract worker is about £10 ph or about £100 per day. So cost just to pay someone to uninstall it all manually is gonna be £10,000, which i think is about 15,000 dollars at current exchange.

Spotlight on Windows looks incredibly cool. Pretty graphs, spining data wheels, pulsing usage points all you could need! oh and freeware!

Shame the licence expires after a year; wonder what that's all about? Oddly enough, if you go to their UK web site, it isn't listed as available?

Regretfully, no Linux boxes into which I can any of the above.

With the budget we can anticipate over the coming months, we'll be rejuvinating anything with a CPU and RAM in it, bunging Windows98 SE on and shunting them back out to classrooms - nothing will be going spare!

Just knocked up this, so download and install python (if you haven't got it already) and paste this

loop=1
import random
while loop==1:
   foo=random.randint(0,2345674323)
   print foo,

into a new file and run it.

Probably like free AVs, keeps an eye on who is using with the possibility of turning them into a paying customers. After the year just renew.

Surely a copy of VirtualBox running locally is less labour intensive than setting up a physical machine!

free, and less power intensive too...
