indiegirl Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Only those resorting to desperate measures need apply here My job is (finally) going to be vacant as of 1st January 2007. (yes, I resigned this morning ) However, the role is a bit 'up in the air' at the moment as it's uncertain as to whether or not the Governors will be giving the go-ahead for recruiting my replacement. It may be as late as April. Anyway, rough specs of the job would be: IT Administrator/Technician. Must have: * Excellent administrative capabilities (because the NM couldn't organise a p!ssup in a brewery) * Knowledge of Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003 * Knowledge of Veritas Backup Exec 10 (because the NM can't use it, and always forgets simple things like putting tapes in daily) * Knowledge of Sophos AntiVirus (because the NM thinks he has this knowledge, but usually screws something up) * Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to write procedures and processes * Delegation skills (for the NM can't delegate for toffee) * Excellent hardware skills (because the NM has very few) * Excellent peacekeeping abilities (because the NM opens his mouth before he thinks) * The mindset that payrises are unimportant and unnecessary. * The ability to want to do an NM's job for a monkey's pay. * A brain cell missing to want to take the job. Must be willing: * To deputise randomly and often for the NM in his absence (late starts, early finishes, random 'sick' days and holidays when he feels like it) * To be prepared for every eventuality (because believe you me, it will happen) * To mop up the mess that NM makes (both literally and metaphorically). This will include tidying his 4 week old rubbish away, as well as sorting out why servers won't run certain scripts or uninstall that flipping program he insisted on installing for himself. Salary: TBD, if you're fortunate you'll get in the region of £19k, but more likely in the region of £15k-18k if the governing body are feeling generous. Nope, I wouldn't take it again, either...
Midget Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Sounds like my job except there isn't a NM. More pay mind....
Guest Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 If they dont re appoint someone then have have gone back to square one. Just with a worse NM.
_Bat_ Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Indiegirl... forgive me if i'm assuming too much here but... you don't like your network manager do you? *does a search for posts by indiegirl* Ah... and there is my answer, haha. In all seriousness now... how do you know he doesn't read this forum? Surely he must have seen your history at some point?
webman Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Surely he must have seen your history at some point? You're assuming that the NM is aware of the history feature
indiegirl Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 You're assuming that the NM knows of edugeek, and of my login....
_Bat_ Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I meant history as in your browser history or some other form of network history... unless you keep clearing it, haha. I can understand exactly why you are so fustrated with him from what you have said though.
ChrisC Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Surely that would only be a problem if you share stations? Does he have the knowledge to even check proxy logs etc.....? Chris
indiegirl Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 We have our own stations... and guess who has so far run the proxy log reports?? *whistles* ;-)
GrumbleDook Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I fancy a change of lifestyle and job ... Manglement is getting boring ... I might apply ... It could be fun to go in and have some fun with the NM ... If nothing else, going to the interview and then ripping him apart would be *sooooooo* much fun ... presuming he is actually in that day and not ... erm .... resting ... Can I, indiegirl ... please ... can I apply and rip him apart?
budgester Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Yes, lets all do it. We could give the NM a breakdown, and allow Indiegirl to take over. After all, it's a well known fact that "The geeks shall inherit the earth" or something like that.
NetworkGeezer Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 @IG The adverts make Milton Keynes out be such a happy place. You spend all bumping about on space hoppers. Have you stopped releasing balloons for no apprent reason?
john Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Sounds a good post, does it come with accomodation by any chance, under the desk is fine
indiegirl Posted December 8, 2006 Author Posted December 8, 2006 Now if you were to apply when (if) the job ever comes up, I would want to be a fly on the wall in the interview room.... Please... I dare one of you to apply if it does arise ;-) @john - we have a particularly manky schoolhouse that we could provide accommodation with ;-) @NG - the balloons are indeed no more. The space hoppers are still around, mind... as are the random pieces of art. We are such happy people here, and it's so radically different. All these roundabouts make us dizzy you see ;-)
john Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I think i'll pass on the manky school house then, perhaps in a few years when i've made my millions (clearly not working for schools in IT)
