CHR1S Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 Data Protection act prevents you from taking anything more than the minimum information necessary to carry out the task. Just 'cos the information is there, doesn't mean it can be legally shared! Yeh, but taking their class or year isnt the worlds biggest breach of the DPA, would have made all our ives much easier to have them sorted by a recogniseable field!
Tricky_Dicky Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Yeh, but taking their class or year isnt the worlds biggest breach of the DPA, would have made all our ives much easier to have them sorted by a recogniseable field! Exactly. And surely if the data is being kept within the school system how is it a breach of data security anyway?
powdarrmonkey Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Data Protection act prevents you from taking anything more than the minimum information necessary to carry out the task. Just 'cos the information is there, doesn't mean it can be legally shared! In this case, I'd say it was necessary to carry out the task in an efficient and timely manner, while other mechanisms ensure its confidentiality.
CHR1S Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 @ICTRambling All they have taken is First Name, Last Name & Year of Entry - we have roughly 700 pupils, and there are way bigger schools than this. Exactly how would you manage lets say 1400 pupils with just those 3 bits of information? You would have to fiter by year of entry then manually add a class for each pupil, @ 30 seconds per pupil thats what 11 ish hours work created by a poor export?
Alis_Klar Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Does anyone know why Link2ICT needed to disable access to Zimbra untill the Mx records were changed? Seem's completely unnecessary. I was having fun playing with the Zimbra interface. Also can't train anyone on Zimbra untill they start recieving new mail to it and they won't be able to check mail on the old address. Lot's of e-mails will go un-answered!
CHR1S Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 No Idea Alis_Klar, when I was using it the outgoing email just vanished and the incoming was bounced so I really cant see why they have.
Alis_Klar Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I could send e-mails internaly to other Zimbra addresses and could send to servicebirmingham people
CHR1S Posted May 13, 2010 Author Posted May 13, 2010 Does anyone know what we are supposed to be doing with the rest of plus? I need to use the mydesktop/classes it but I cant seem to access it anymore (via http://domain.plus.myvle.org)
meatloaf Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Chr1s - I have exactly the same question with no answer ....
CHR1S Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 meatloaf, I just tried http://domain.plus.myvle.org/mydesktop again and its working, I think its pretending to be a yo-yo, typical L2ICT/BGFL
andy_b Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 What are people doing with My Personal Message Manger (MyPMM)? Staff seem to be getting a little confused as its another thing to login to. I asked if we could delegate all accounts to a single automatically so it was more like the old BGFL+ system, but apparently it can only be requested by each individual user. I suspect no one will actually ever login to MyPMM to release an email, which might not matter I suppose, kinda depends on how well it filters....
CHR1S Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 So far I haven't figured out how it filters! I still get my Viagra emails daily but its blocking legitimate ones all the time. One step forward, 3 back
sonic1485 Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 We are moving to Zimbra on June 10th. I can see me referring to this forum for answers rather then the documentation Link2ICT send!
mtdmitchell Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I’m Just about to start uploading our users via CSV’s. We deleted all the ones set up by LInk2ict, we decided that we are going to stick with the format we have had for the last 10 years. What I can’t believe is that when importing users I can only import 3 columns of info. How the hell am I going to delete all the year elevens each year? I can’t see any way of separating them. Surely I don’t have to go though 1100 users and add a description so I can filter them. Also correct me if I’m wrong but I cannot see a way of bulk changing all the staff users’ quota
CHR1S Posted May 28, 2010 Author Posted May 28, 2010 I made L2ICT change all mine for me, added extra "description" info to make them more searchable. 1

Alis_Klar Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 @People who have migrated. Did you have a website hosted on BGfL+? We do and we have been told by Link2ICT that the site will simply be copied over to a new server (accessible via same URL so absolute hyperlinks will still work) and we will get new FTP details. Could anyone confirm that this went smoothly for them? Thanks

They can only Reccomened how you set your system up, we didnt want to distruped the use of email which has become a very important daily comms channel. Edited May 28, 2010 by mtdmitchell

FTP access is only available from within BGFL and seems a little slow to initiate connections, but worked without any problems. The "old" copy still exists on http://schoolname.plus.myvle.org and can you can still access the sina admin stuff at that address. 1

Tricky_Dicky Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Does anyone know how to download a list of contacts from with Zimbra to a CSV? We have quite a few office staff who want a new list and have far too many emails to move over to using everything on Zimbra and so would like to download the contacts of staff.
Alis_Klar Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Does anyone know how to download a list of contacts from with Zimbra to a CSV? We have quite a few office staff who want a new list and have far too many emails to move over to using everything on Zimbra and so would like to download the contacts of staff. goto http://moodle.myvle.org/lpsg/mod/glossary/view.php and search for contacts.csv also if you have your contacts in outlook you can export from there or if you use the Zimbra Outlook Connector it will sync your contacts
Alis_Klar Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 WARNING: I have deployed the Zimbra Outlook Connector to several users and after you install it their old messages in outlook dissapear. They are not deleted as you can re-import the PST file. Only issue is that the autocomplete information is lost also. This is stored in the outlook.nk2 file. Zimbra create's a zimbra.nk2 file and will work from then onwards but I have yet to successfully import the old nk2 entries into the new. I have tried NK2View - View Outlook .NK2 AutoComplete Information and another utility to no avail. Otherwise the Zimbra outlook connector is excellent and will sync All mail folders Calendars Tasks Contacts Also Zimbra desktop is great as it allows simple offline access. Works so well I am even thinking of dumping outlook.
CHR1S Posted June 23, 2010 Author Posted June 23, 2010 WARNING: I have deployed the Zimbra Outlook Connector Did the same thing, see here - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind-red-door/58452-l2ict-zimbra-why.html
