Tyiell Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I don't believe it!!! The darn thing has red ringed itself to death AGAIN!!!. This is the 4th time on that Xbox - if I didn't know someone who can fix it (and properly, not wrapping a towel round it and throwing it in the fire or whatever the latest daft youtube video reccomends!) - I would be seriously annoyed. Wait, scratch that, I'm seriously annoyed anyway!! The motherboards been replaced twice, the heatsink twice, and I think IVe had 3 new procs. MS really need to get their solderability sorted... Sorry, rant over - should this have been BTRD?
Tyiell Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 Nah mines outside even the extended warranty TBF. Fortunately my step-granfather runs a little electronics business to avoid being drafted into working in his wife vegetable garden - he got himself all the official kit to fix them!!! Not sure if he's officially certified, but I think MS send some business his way so presumably he is... It's not what you know - its who you know
round2it Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 thought these might be what you need some nice coasters
Tyiell Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 thought these might be what you need some nice coasters Heh, they're awesome. Buying some of those!!!

JJonas Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 if it makes you feel any better i have had to fix 2 PS3 that had the YLOD recently. Whats the fix for that? as I know where there is a PS3 with that exact fault.
round2it Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 [nomedia=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U70SgRDVcBo&feature=related]YouTube- ps3 ylod fix part1 gilksy[/nomedia] this video guide is spot on basically you need to refload a few chips on the MB its not hard you need a heat gun and some thermal compound paste
round2it Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 i posted a link when you first asked ages ago you must not have seen it. dont be scared of melting the board they are hardy little things just keep the heat gun moving
round2it Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 The fix will take about an hour and a half that includes about 30 mins cooling time The ps3 is very very well built the fan inside is huge you will know what i mean when you open it up. My tip is get four containers for the screws also a digital camera to take pictures of where things go i did the first time. Also look very closely wher the rubber pads go on the board if you put them back in the wrong place you might short out the system.

andy_nic Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 i'm on my second xbox 360 after the red ring after the power went on and off 3 or 4 times in a row. however when i bought a new one i got one with a hdmi socket to link to my HD TV.
ascott2 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Relatively straight forward to fix the RRoD. Have done it a few times myself. It's the useless X-clamps that cause the problem usually. Just a case of replacing them with the right sized screws and a bunch of washers. Has worked for me, that's how I ended up with one for free!
CHR1S Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I thought the RROD was fixed FOC regardless of warranty as it was a recognised fault?
Tyiell Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 I thought the RROD was fixed FOC regardless of warranty as it was a recognised fault? As I understand it they just extended the warranty to 3 years to cover it...
EduTech Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I thought the RROD was fixed FOC regardless of warranty as it was a recognised fault? No Mate, It is 3 Years Extended Warrenty for: - Red Ring of Death - E74 Error Code to get it fixed via the Microsoft Route. @OP - If you have sent it back before to Microsoft and it has just come out of warrenty this time round, it might be worth speaking to a Rep might be able to sort something out for your inconvience, and it might of been fixed anyway. James.
