No signal input

Hi,

 

I am using a RM Ascend 2020B machine but everytime I switch on the pc keeps beeping and I get the message 'no signal input' on screen.

 

After a few seconds the monitor turns off but the beeping continues and want load

 

any help/suggestions as to how I can fix this??

The machine isn't booting ... hence no signal input to the monitor.

 

The beeps are usually in a pattern (not random) and are telling you what's wrong... you'll need the manual or to go to RM's website to find out what they translate into.

Perhaps you misread - Reseat, not reset. Open the case, remove the RAM sticks from their slots and place them firmly back in. I generally swap the sticks around, so they're in the opposite slots to which they were in originally.

I usually give the contacts a rub with an eraser too, to clean them up. Also blow a bit compressed air into the RAM slots on the board.

Depending on the beeps and how many will point you to the problem.

It could be the Graphics card but also may be the memory.

 

Process of elimination by taking something away and then booting up and see what happens and so forth.

first off, removing the case seems to be a big issue as it's a built in 1 pc any suggestions on tools I should use as the screws are weird and can't be removed with a normal screw driver

I agree it's most likely a memory or even a processor problem. A computer can still boot without a graphics card. Your only reference would be hard drive activity.

A 2020 case is the small form factor white ones from RM if I remember correctly. There's two screws at the back (and all ours are normal Philips screws), then the lid just slides backwards and off it comes. You might need to give the lid a hit with your fist to get it moving as the older machines can be a bit awkward.

 

Once that's off you will be looking down on the motherboard in all its glory, and should be able to see the memory quite easily.

 

EDIT: In fact I think the 2020's are the black cases. Similar with the 2 screws at the back, but the whole black case slides forward. Again, you might need to give it a bit of a thump to get it moving.

Unfortunately screws can be complex... it is wise to invest in a screwdriver security bit set (I got one for less than £10 off eBay with 100 pieces) if you are ever likely to have investigate inside the case of PCs.

 

Usually the case cover comes off easily with only 1 screw, however I have had one or two with security screws

Agreed - another good place to get a set, I found, it one of those indoor markets - there's always a stall full of tools somewhere. I got a 100 piece set for £4.50 a few years ago.

Maplin will sell you a security screw head set and will probably be able to give better advice than eBay if you're a complete novice.

 

May come in a couple of pounds more expensive though.

 

Ask about anti-static wristbands whilst you're there if you go.

 

Before opening a PC case ensure that the wall socket for that PC is off, but ideally leave it plugged in for earth.

 

There is usually a rocker switch on the power supply you can also use to cut the power whilst leaving a valid earth.

Sympathies to the originator of this thread. I also have an RM Ascend 2020B. Its an all-in-one PC in a BLACK plastic case and is a real puzzle. Can not get the case open and I am not a newbie. I have been building/repairing PCs for 15 years and this case, along with the lack of support documentation, is driving me mad.

 

IU only want to up the memory but how to open the case?
