Not sure where to put this little beauty, but does anyone know if there is a way of disabling/restricting to the calculator in XP via Group policy.

Its for a computer exam and they are not allowed access to a calculator. I suppose I could hide the shortcut on every PC? But then they can create a shortcut anyway....(Right click needed for exam).

Any idea's?

HI

Place the exam users in a ou of their own and create a group policy and edit it to add a path rule to %SystemRoot%\System32\calc.exe and deny access. On my exam users I have accounts that are only used for exams and are disable the rest of the time. They have all sorts of restruction like to internet explorer, real player, quick time etc to stop them accessing the internet. They also have a dead link proxy set so they cannot get out. I also have ntfs permissions set of all sorts of things stopping them accessing things on the network.

Have a look at Create a path rule: Security Policy; Security Services for more nfo

Why would a computer exam not allow the use of computer resources? Bit like not allowing a steering wheel when you take a driving test!

Because you have to use a wrench / spanner lol

If it's just the calculator you want to block, you can do it two ways: Software Restriction Policy (as mentioned earlier) or quite simply, through this method:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Don't run specified Windows Applications

Some students are allowed to use computers for accessibility reasons. eg A student suffering from dyslexia may be allowed the use of a word processor during exams.
