UPDATE: Not really a solution, but a possible work-around? If we go to Start>Run \\ we can select the printers set up on that print server, right-click and 'connect'. This will download the proper print drivers and not give us any Department ID errors on the clients. The command must be run as an account with administrator privileges, however.

HI

We have just purchased a canon 6075 adv and its got the same problem. I have the canon man on site now and I have asked him and he is going to ask the question of canon.

All this started when the userid's were turned on. It appears that the client pc's will not talk to the photocopier but the server will. I have tried installing the canon information service on the computer but that did not work either,

@ricki,

Install the Canon Driver Information Assist Service program on your server which is hosting the printer.

When its installed, right click on the printer, properties, and then choose if I remember correctly, Device Settings, and then choose Get Information from printer.

This then picks up all the settings etc, e.g. copier codes from the printer.

When you print at your client it should work.

as long as you install the

Canon Driver Information Assist Service

it should be good, double check the Canon service is running on the server.

This solved my issue! The Canon service had stopped itself for some reason, starting it again corrected things immediately.

Thanks very much!

Also had the same issues. Restarting the Canon service solved the problem. Thanks for your help.

What I found was that when I added a new printer, in this case for a Datamax (using Nicelabel drivers) the service stopped. It was even stopped when I went to share the printer!

Very annoying but at least I know what to look out for if it happens again!

After I had setup the new printers and re-setarted the service it has remained stable.

We are using the PCL6 driver.

I get this on one of our canon photocopiers but it seems to be because the photocopier has gone into standby and cannot be woken. If I manually turn the photocopier on, it is fine.

We installed a new copier then I changed to a new print server. Canon didn't know what to do....

After reading this post I found the CD "UFR II User Software" which includes the DIASsetup.exe.

Once loaded on the printer server all the desktops are working.

I didn't need to change the driver just load the Canon Service.

Grateful for the resources found here! THANKS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!

A little old now but we have the same issue now, only one of our canon c5035i's does this. If you push the power button and wake it up everything is fine till it falls asleep again.
