My sincerest apologies!

I had to test out the fix in 3 different year groups then the ICT Coordinator got a hold of the netbook and wanted to test it for herself.. then an electrician came to look at our smartboard that was receiving electrical interference from someplace...

sufficed so say my 2 minutes turned into quite a long time =-)

Anyways, to the point, the fix seemed to work ok, the logon takes a bit longer, maybe 45 seconds or so after hitting enter for the username and password to be accepted and begin the profile creation etc

but it works, we're going to look at replacing the 5 points we have with some new ones so that will hopefully mean a quicker logon but hey, it works now so thank you very much!

Glad you got it sorted.

Hi guys, apologies for bringing an old thread back up.

I am having some issues with the wireless points again, we are looking at getting some wg602 netgear points so they will hopefully resolve the issues.

Tried downloading the net stumbler thing but when i go into one of the units where the wap is, netstumbler says there are no ap's available.

When i get the new waps im going to use alternate channels like you guys mentioned earlier in the thread

Yea, its cool got it sorted, netstumbler doesnt like 7 yet from what i can see, compatibility didnt work either, i pulled out one of the netbooks and stuck it on there.

Not really that clued up on wireless terminology but i went into a couple of rooms, heres what i found:

The current wireless points (1 per unit) were all on channel 6. Lots of unknown Ap's from outside the school, bt homehubs and talktalk hubs etc all on channel 1. The waps in the units ranged from -21 average signal to -85 in the opposite end of the unit.

One thing i did notice, when i was about 10 meters away from one of the points, i was only getting around 40k/sec download speeds, think i should run some tests to see how fast the waps are running?

Had 8 WPN802T's delivered last week, planning on 2 per year group and will be doing the work later this week.

I still find it weird how they were only handing down 40k/sec to the laptops, think i should take a look at the comms cab and see if there are some issues there maybe
