tech_guy Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I like a drink at home now and again (who doesn't?) but have noticed the prices steadily rising around my neck of the woods here in darkest Warwickshire, and a local off-licence that was pretty cheap has just been closed. Apparently setting up your own still is still illegal in the UK - Mrs.Tech_Guy has hit that idea on the head (so it looks like I'm going to have to return all the stuff I've 'borrowed' from the science lab - d'oh....!). I'm a Jack Daniels man so where is the cheapest place to buy it from?

It's timed to perfection: Arrive Auchan Calais 8.30am just as it opens, Do the shop, Have a coffee and a gateau in the coffee shop as the rest of the UK arrives, head into Calais old town to the market, lunch in a restaurant, afternoon on the beach if the weather's good (good for kites!) and then potter home

When he bought it, it was matured 18 years, so the stuff is like 42 years old now....I have had some of that and my god whiskey tastes fantastic the older it gets! When we went to sainsburys in calais at the end of dec they had 6 x bottles of red wine not sure the make but really nice for £9 but they sell it in sainsburys here for £6.99 a bottle!! shows how much goes to gordon! Our regulars are: Restaurant La Mer, brasserie, spécialité de poissons for fish especially the Bateau de Fruits de Mer and Restaurant L'Histoire Ancienne for fab French Food

Majestic Wine - Homepage [ Can get only get two bottles in my box on my 650 ] - I tend to buy by the case load normally when I am in the car so it's not unusual for me to get 24 at a time....... On first name terms with them and they are always prepared to cork a bottle if something takes my fancy...... Other than that it's Carlsberg from Sainsburys [ large cases ]

No. I tend not to think of it............I have heard that the liver can re-generate right ? And hell if Steve Jobs can get a new one, I should be able to get one myself or at least an App for it. Stange thing is I have started to drink more ever since my move into education.......

StewartKnight Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I like the new Grouse Black, as a cheap every day Peaty whisky. Tesco et al sell it for £16, but I was in the Whisky shop in Gretna Green on Sunday and they were selling it (obviously to tourists) for £23!

Ill buy a bottle of whatever if its on offer but often there are no offers at all Need to get it off the net really, drinksshop do the 7 year old Havana Club for about £20 which is beautiful
