korifugi Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 My mood wasn't helped this morning by the resultant forum found by googling the error. The first two results were full of XBox fanboys proclaiming comments along the lines of "Ours is better! Lolololoio". I don't dislike the XBox, actually it's a very good system. I just dislike the fanboyism that happens (This goes for anything like Xbox/PS3, Microsoft/Apple, Spots/Stripes, Cats/Dogs and Ninjas/Pirates!) ...Although we ALL know Ninjas are superior!

Why didnt sony test the date system with leap years etc...? this error should have come up if they tested an even non leap year. Could it be that sony didnt test to see if it would still be working in 2010 because they intended to force feed us the ps4 by now?

Why didn't Microsoft test the Xbox in a real situation, where heat might have been produced rather than just turning the machine on.
Theblacksheep Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 From some other Forum: The ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, that is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. Is an old batch that Sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods. Causing the ps3 system clock and the real time clock to desync, messing up security measures like Digital Rights management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason. As well as signing up to the playstation network... This CPU is always on even when your PS3 isn't plugged in. This problem is also happening with various of test Ps3 models, particulary the ones that has the emotion engine cpu/gpu for ps2 dev. This is the one of the same type of CPUs that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem The Slims ps3s aren't affected because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug. A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila...
ahuxham Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Resolution and problem explained. So not Sony's fault at all, rather a chip error, otherwise Research in Motion and HTC are in trouble as well
mpe Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 The scary stupid thing is they only need to test 5 dates to confirm the service will work for <24 years! Thats when its silly, its not like its not simple for them to test. But for some reason people manage to make a hash of working out when leap years are. Even though it isn't exactly complex and the most obvious mistake only becomes an issue in 2100.
elsiegee40 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Back in the days of yore... when I was a trainee programmer on IBM Mainframe, we had a sign on he wall Test Data = Data for which the program works 'nuff said

Totally agreed, especially the Ninjas vs Pirates bit. I'm just waiting for Bravo to do a Deadliest Warrior episode with ninjas and pirates.
ZeroHour Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 LOL somabc, and just to be different PIRATES FTW, all they do is get on a boat and the ninja's are beat. Ninjas wont let their pajamas/ninja suites get wet as they shrink
ahuxham Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Another vote for Pirates, being that 90% of all Pirates hung for piracy stated their birth places as Bristol. England vs Japan!
somabc Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Another vote for Pirates, being that 90% of all Pirates hung for piracy stated their birth places as Bristol. England vs Japan! That was just probably where the pirates (navy) press ganged them (enlisted them)
ZeroHour Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Pah Who ever heard of a Teenage Mutant Pirate Turtle. Is that not a new RIAA cartoon or something?
ZeroHour Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Would seem someone on deviantart has thought of this already. http://th08.deviantart.net/fs13/300W/f/2007/111/2/8/Teenage_Mutant_Pirate_Turtles_by_ESushi.jpg Time to go home me thinks. Thats so awesome I can barely contain myself :D
john Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 No you get "RROD" think you should be aware of that or perhaps your stuck in 1999 I do know about those, but I've had my xbox for ages now and not had that ever. lol What was it Microsoft had? Circle of life? Oh no wait.... That reminds me of: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8ZnCT14nRc]YouTube- Elton John - Circle Of Life (High Quality)[/ame] Excellent song and well composed as ever from such a great guy
CHR1S Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 That reminds me of: Excellent song and well composed as ever from such a great guy You were so close to getting negative rep then, but I think your joking so its ok........
ZeroHour Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Woohoo my ps3 works, the psn is a lonely place right now, no one on my list is online and I have a fair few now lol. I was sure it was on till 2am last night and thats why its working I guess.
DrCheese Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 My PS3 is boxed away at the moment, redecorating sucks Is a little funny that Sony are hoping to have a fix out within 24 hours... well yeah, it'll be fixed by then anyway (In theory ) Still, I bet Sony are glad that it hasn't affected the launch of any major games (yet) Bad company 2 this week and FF13 next week (?) I could see a lot of angry PS3 gamers if they weren't able to play on day one whereas xbox owning friends could
Cache Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Woohoo my ps3 works, the psn is a lonely place right now, no one on my list is online and I have a fair few now lol. I was sure it was on till 2am last night and thats why its working I guess. Bah, I went offline early last night because I had to go on a course today. Course finished early, came home and no PS3. The irony of going to bed early for a change, just proves it's not worth it.
john Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 You were so close to getting negative rep then, but I think your joking so its ok........ eer I like Elton John Just saw this on the BBC News Site - Sony says to stop playing games!: http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_10050000/newsid_10058900/10058914.stm
