They are thus tied to your Dell Machines as they are OEM licences just like Windows etc. The will be tied to the optical drives with them most likely.

That would be no use unless you were also buying a PC manufactured by Scan at the same time - OEM licenses are attached to the original manufacturer, and the original machine purchased with.

on power dvd that comes with dell machines you have to alter the installer ini file to load on other systems.

 

other wise it says it is only for dell machines

 

dont know about the legaility of doing this

Well all suppliers both here and and on EduBuy have let me down

 

Not going to go down the "borrwowing" OEM route

 

I've given up on

MPC and VLC- too hard for teachers/lunchtime supervisors to use.

 

Also giving up on separate DVD player (The video/sound leads are ALWAYS found to have fallen out when they ACTUALLY want to use them and too hard to learn how to switch sources )

I'm going to be reducing the amount I use it with Windows 7, it plays DVD's out the box anyway.

 

But on another note, when you do find some copies (again I can post you some OEM ones! - I've got hundreds of the things) install it, and then block Power DVD from running, once installed on XP Windows Media Player will be able to play DVD's, and in classic mode that as easy as it gets!

As VLC can be controlled via command line, you can create a shortcut on the desktop with something like:

 

vlc.exe dvd://d: -f

 

Which opens VLC, runs the d: drive and then puts it fullscreen (in that order, with a small delay in between each).

Well unless its got some easy peazy mode that I've not found - yes.

 

To use it I click on media -thats not obvious to a non-techy is it

Then Open Disc - I don't want to open a disc - i want to play it

 

And then finally I press Play

 

again I can post you some OEM ones!

 

And again - I decline your kind offer on the grounds that its not kosher

Tried it out on this computer (staff room) and DVD drive doesn't work and teacher says - oh yes - its been like that for months :(
