What are people using these days? MS Office or OpenOffice? I would be interested to hear any comments people have as we're currently looking to make a decision on whether to take out a schools agreement and include Office or simply switch to OpenOffice.

I've said this else where - I'm pro-OpenOffice but that means nothing if the teachers point blank refuse to use it!

We have Latest Open Office everywhere and MS Office XP on 2/3 of machines. We are currently evaluating if we should remove MS Office completely or stump up the cash for the lastest round of MS.

The likelyhood at the moment is tha come June we'd buy into Office 2010. But there is still an outside chance that we might stick to our guns and remove MS Office completely over the summer. Time will tell.

We use office 2007, a few 2003 versions due to the spec of some of the machines. However I have OpenOffice installed on my Netbook, it’s quite good. But most students & staff have word at home so can’t see us here ever moving over to OpenOffice anytime soon.

We are using Office 2003, soon to upgrade to 2007, I tried to move accross to OpenOffice but the head of ICT refused point blank, because he was doing something in his lessons that used access, now he's not but we are still staying on MS Office, can't wait to see the SBM's face when I show her the costs for 350 licences

Personal View, Since I don't work anywhere:

Microsoft Office

* Word: I'm commonly using screenshots in my coursework and to display/line up them up nicely, I use tables with invisible borders, Where as OpenOffice doesn't seem to constrain the images with its tables.

* Outlook: Outlook is the only common app my devices can use to sync all their details with.

All teachers use Office 2003 on their laptops/smartboard computers - they can't cope with differences between OpenOffice and Office.

1/4 my schools use Office XP/2003 on curric machines - all others use OpenOffice.

When Office used to cost around £60 - it was about 20% the cost of a computer - now its around £30 its about 15% of a netbook - so every 7 machines I can buy another netbook if the school doesn't use Office.
