SimpleSi Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Just to ses if anyone else has used the Samsung N130s on a Ruckus network - I rolled out a set of 20 last week and some teachers have said they were unable to save work to server. This happended on orig netbooks (Samsung NC10s) but an upgrade on Ruckus software fixed it PDQ. Downloading latest (its up to 8.1.0.2.5 for info) and just upgrading now - will report next week to see if that's (hopefully) cured it regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 OK - upgrading Ruckus didn't work N130s still reported as not being to save into server folder Saw it for myself today - I went to use a machine that had previously connected OK and it had disconnected So I donwloaded latest drivers from Samsung and installed them - didn't see any funny behaviour afterwards but I'll need the teachers/pupils to test them out again. Simon
White_Fi Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Simon it is very unlikely that any wireless AP would be stopping a client from saving work on a server. It sounds like it could be down to a configuration or an ACL somewhere on your network. Is the client able to ping the server? Can you try to telnet to the server from the client on the port used for filesharing, 139 or 445 i think (you will need to double check this).
ninjabeaver Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I've just had two members of staff reporting the same thing. NC10 I've just had I just re-ran the activation wizard (the one that downloads the little file) and it seems to have fixed that one. My tech being the other but did the same and sorted.
SimpleSi Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 @Stuart Hi -I'm not at the school again till Thurs after half-term (fortnight away) - the world of primary support 1/2 day week The serer isn't the issue - thats just one of the faults the teachers report when their wireless isn't working - at the end of the lesson they go to save and it doesn't work I've had no reports of any problems with the original bank of Samsung NC10s since we did the Ruckus firmware upgrade before Xmas - it is just the new bank of 20 Samsung N130s. While I was at the school yesterday - I saw an N130 just lose the wireless connection - it was just sitting on a desk and the wireless icon changed to red cross As said, previous week I upgrade Ruckus firmware - no difference made - thsi week I've upgrade the drivers on the N130 (a realtek variety can't remember the type number - the NC10s are Atheros AR5007EG) - I'll need them to test out and see if that fixes it. They are running XP Home. regards Simon
Jose Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 this should work download driver version 5.3.0.56 from here ATHEROS Wireless LAN 2.4/5GHz - Download Driver AR5007EG its called driver series 5, make sure you delete the old driver files first

featured_spectre Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 It's the atheros cards, they are absolute rubbish. Each machine we have with them don't work nearly as well as the machines with the intel wireless cards. It's not just on ruckus networks, it's also on hp networks (as tested at another school)
SimpleSi Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 I don't have a problem with my Atheros based NC10s. I have a problem with my Realtek based N130s regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 New drivers haven't made any difference - teachers still reporting can't save to network folders I've lodged a proper support call with the net-ctrl helpdesk regards Simon

EvLPhenom Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 We had same sort of issues with realtek drivers but with Toshiba laptops and our ruckus wireless kit, i can't remember how many different drivers i tried but was a complete pita. We got them working in the to a suffiecient standard, but we had to turn the roaming aggression all the way down to stop them wondering off and finding another ap which was in other rooms. Maybe try this, should be in the advanced part of the driver properties.

Ruckus is addressing the problem with these over sensitive clients roaming aimlessly with a control called bandstreering due for release in 8.2, 5-6weeks 1

SimpleSi Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 The latest driver from the realtek site is downloading at 25KBS - its like the old days
SimpleSi Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Well - that was a great experience - file eventually downloaded - ran the setup -rebooted and the driver is still showing its on version 1678.0.1019.2009 - which is what it was beforehand So I tried just doing the Update Driver on the Driver tab and its said that I had the most up to date- this is despite the download zip file having the version number 1085.23.1230.2009 in its name Time to give up for today Simon

I have just rolled out 30 N130's with Realteck Driver. As you commented " you watched the wireless drop out " this happens to us all of the time. We have several access points in the area Netgears 102's. We thought it would be that so we upgraded the AP's to Netgears 302's. We then thought it was the cisco switches so we connected the server, internet and acces points onto a single Netgear switch bypassing the entire school infrustructure. Still failed! We have also tried updating to the latest wireless driver. This is a standard Windows 2003 Network. The Netbooks just drop out willi nilly when they want to ! James
jamesstoner Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Do ypu still have your problems ? What AP where you using ? Also version of driver ? Many thanks James
SimpleSi Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Hi James Just to save me some re-typing - check all the info on my setup versions in previous posts in this thread Also got another thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/51059-anyone-using-samsung-n130s.html which I started in case the problems were not just confined to Ruckus and N130s (Which is your case) Could you post your realtek driver version over there please? regards Simon
apeo Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 BTW to get our Tosh with realtek adapters to work we did the following: Roaming Aggression: Lowest 802.11d: Enabled TX Power: Max We also had to alter our APs with Channelization set to 20 and I have to manually set Power on some APs. Its kinda funny that i've had to setup each ap individually. We have a problem with here with something causing interference with some channels so i have to setup each ap on a specific channel manually.
