New airport scanners

I found it pretty funny last night on the news when a spokes woman was explaining that peoples privacy would not be infringed by the scanners as skin tone is not shown so it's not pornographic. Then in the background a demo image was shown and (I suspect due to it being 6 PM) the groin area had been blurred out

 

They actually failed to blur an image that was further in the background and you could clearly see a 'privacy' issue. TBH i'm not that bothered about privacy if it stops planes falling out of the sky but I thought it hilarious how censoring of the images made a mockery of the privacy claim.

 

I also like the way that the threat level has been raise so the consultation has been put to one side and the scanners rushed into service….cynical me? Never

I don't see what the issue is to be honest. I'm sure if it was your job looking at private parts all day it would soon get very boring. I wonder what the job title is for this role?

I can't help but think that if we have got to the stage where we have to scan everyone through to their naked body, and all the delays and hassles it brings with that, the terrorists have pretty much won.

Precisely. Cars kill more people than terrorists do, choking kills more people than terrorists! Even being hit by lightning is more common!

 

So, why is so much effort being spent on this terrorist 'threat'? Surely doing all this just provides them with self-validation, that they're making a dent in the minds of the British people?

Indeed. The scanners were on the news last year a few weeks or a month before the christmas day attemped bombing. They were shown as a potential new security measure. After the attempted bombing they suddenly were a certainty, and now they're getting installed. What great timing for them to be invented/produced eh?

 

Personally I dont mind. Being terrified of flying as it is, and not likely to become a terrorist or drug mule anytime soon I cant really complain too much. But it does make you wonder sometimes

Exactly that's the whole reason behind terror attacks it's not just about killing people it's about runining everyones fun (or something like that)

And next week on the 'news' - ID cards, how you won't be able to visit the local shops without one......BECAUSE IT'S THE LAW

Lets face it, the government have not got anything else better to do now they have fiddled their way though the expenses, they now want to fiddle with your airport scan photos. And when 'Eton - I've never had a real job before in my life' boy gets in, it will be even worse.....

I certainly know what I'll be voting for in the next election - NONE OF THE ABOVE. Which as share of the votes will show will be the majority.

I'd have no issue with none of this if it was actually used properly...

 

I remember them saying they were going to be optional... I.E you can go through the hassle of pat down or strip search or walk through one of these. TBH would be absoulty fine with that..

 

Also whilst I'm on the point how come the people on the news premoting these things, have never put themselves through it and shown it on tv?

Would have no issue with ID cards either... but I had my driving license and passport stolen last year, and ended up claiming job seekers in north london. Whilst still paying tax and working in Warwickshire. Not even govt agencies check the ruddy photograph.

 

Oh and don't forget if you ever do get stopped by the police the card that fits perfectly in your wallet MUST be accompinied by a thin peice of paper that is just big enough not to fit in your average jean pocket.
