I also know that it's hillarious when people ask my OH a techy question that he can't answer, he turns and asks me - the look on their face is a picture Not that it happens often though...

witch Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I do get people deferring to mrwITch but TBF he is a techie person too, albeit more software and technical architect-y these days. It was worse back when I went to college (avoiding the dinosaurs) though - the first lecturer I had was amazed when I could recite the resistor colour code (now how many on here still know that!) I am very proud to be a female geek - having studied electronics when I left school, I have been one all my adult life. It is a bit obvious when I meet my friends and they are all talking about 'Cranford' or somesuch and I want to discuss Heroes or Survivors or Being Human! 1

Personally, as long as you can do your job, why does it matter? What do I care what gender you are? Although there's also a few dinosaurs in the company who can't get their head around it.... 5

Sorry couldn't help it either.. Anyway, there's a very experienced and damn good female tech within my county support team who was a complete 180 to the old, patronising male idiot who she replaced at one school I took over a ways back. As noted earlier, if you can do the job, what are you doing standing there, get over here and help!
