Ruckus APs

Those who have Ruckus in, what are you plugging the APs into, 100meg or 1gig. We have a gig fibre backbone, but only 100 meg to desktop in the majority of the places..only a few spare gig points.

I'm concerned about the performance we'll see from this, on our aging network, it not being able to show off ruckus to it's best.

Sorry, should also mention, we're attempting to have 30 11g clients all connecting in one class, on a rm cc3 build......log on and sync times are the two issues we're trying to resolve.

Mine are just in normal 100Mb points and we quite often have 30 machines at once logged on.

We have our G APs connected to 100Mb ports as that is the top speed of the Ruckus G APs ethernet port

 

We have our N APs connected to 1Gb ports

 

We have had no problems with up to 30 laptops logging on at one time

We're installing mostly into 1gig with 1gig backbone, but in some areas we only have 100Mbit available at the moment. As and when we move to replace 100Mbit switches and our older fibre, we'll be replacing with 1Gbit connections and 10Gbit backbone.

I had a conversation with ruckus top tech bod a while ago and realistically having N on 100mb Ethernet port should not be a real issue.

 

Our HP N solution is running through 100mb to AP.

Are you using Windows notebooks with GP over wireless? I'd be interested in how you get on with this, I’ve been in touch with a few schools setup like this and once you get 20+ notebooks on the AP connections become dreadfully slow.

 

Currently I’ve setup some netbooks to use Citrix which works very well but it's a touch on the expensive side so I’d like to be able to use basic XP/7 notebook.

Yes, they've all got a CC3 build on them, meaning machines run gp updates, package allocations (if any) authentication and then synchronisation with the sync folder on the network. Admittedly some students (despite being told to the contrary) have over 50mb in their sync folder which doesn't help matters..

 

Once one, they are fine at browsing, file access etc..it's just getting the log on and sync process faster.
