Hi,

 

Im looking at getting a HP Color LaserJet CP1515n

 

Just wondered if anyone has got these and what they think so far?

 

For around £170 they seem really good value, and im looking to replace a Brother HL-2700cn

All these are "Host Based" network printers eg they expect to be attached to a Host PC via a direct connection the network function is purely intended to be a substitute for USB/Parrallel/Serial etc.

 

As a result when people try to set them up on Server Queues they can have real issues.

 

These should be considered as local devices and if they need to be shared install the drivers and TCP ports locally on each machine "Workgroup Printing" as HP like to call it.

Even though the support material might say there are drivers for Server 2008 that doesn't mean they want you to share the queue!

 

They are not true network printers as we know them so don't be caught out like so many here!

I've purchased two of the CP1515N printers and never had a problem setting them up as network printers on a 2003 domain.

 

My only concern with the units is that they can be a little eager to go through the toner and a full set of toner can cost a fair bit more than the actual cost of the printer.

 

If you can keep the printing down so that you're not going through a full set of toner every other week then they are great little printers in my experience.

Just going to echo the thoughts of ajs on this printer.

 

We use one in an office and setting it up on Server 2003 wasnt an issue and we've had no problems with it in terms of running. As mentioned though, the toners can cost as much as the printer for a full set of 4 so if its going to be hammered its going to cost quite a bit to keep it going.

We've got one set up on the network (it's actually used in an office so doesn't see much use, but is connected through the ethernet none the less). Never had any issues with it. Economy could be better and I wouldn't use it in a classroom, but that's the same with any cheap printers.

 

Also, not sure where you get £170 from? Misco list it at around £112 including the cashback offer (or £155 without it) here

We've got 3 or 4 of them, so far mostly trouble free but the toners are expensive. Somebody show me a colour laser with cheap genuine toners though..

Right good helpful reviews as always, i was hoping for something that will be used heavily, and as a stand alone network printer, so from what you guys have said this printer is a no now, can someone please give me a review + idea of cost of printers they use in computer suites/offices etc

We have one of these in a computer suite so it gets hammered with kids printing full pages in colour. I like it, easy to setup, not had any problems in daily use either.

We too have a few of these but I echo what others have said, purely for small number of users in the offices.

 

We currently have HP 3505 in the classroom.

We have a number of them, I find them very slow and the paper tray is very poor, tend to be loading it up every 5 minutes.

We've got a few, all networked with no issues. We just bought another with the £50 cashback ServersPlus mentioned which makes it an even better deal.

CP2025 is a better option. Bit bigger, toners are more cost per page friendly etc...

Yeah i just noticed that one, was looking at the Brother 4040CN but we already have one in school and compared to the Brother 2700cn the colour quality isnt very good at all
