Little-Miss Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Hi guys! I'm finally back. I havent been on for ages. Think i was on a bit of a downer with it all but am coming out of it now! Feeling brighter. I have sooo many questions......oh the questions! lol Anyhoo, the first. My head has decided to let me buy 3 new projectors to replace the really bad ones in the school. But i am aware its not as easy as taking the old one down and replacing it with a new one! So, how do i go about this?! With throw and Lumens and all the jazz. We currently have Sanyo's in place and we use promethean boards. we obvisouly want the ones that you can get now when the bulbs are replaced in the warranty or whatever it is.... Thanks!!

Ambient Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I recommend Hitachi EDX40's They're ace..and becta approved orange ones. Come with two remotes (one designed for a teacher...which therfore has very few buttons) We have LOADS of them around our school £399 each from Computanet in Hull 1

laserblazer Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Welcome back LM. How much money have you been given? We now have a policy to replace projectors with short-throw jobs that bolt above the screen. We use the Hitachi A100 but they are more expensive. It's mainly a Health & Safety issue but they look great. If not, you will ideally want to use the same mounting pole if possible and most of them are pretty universal but check to see how it works. A lot of projectors have mounting holes and the pole has adjustable arms that can be moved to line up with the holes. A bit of a fiddle but not difficult. 1

The 2 main ones are the Sanyo PLC-SU50 and PLC-XU41. We do have what i think is a universal mount. They're the ones where the plate comes from the mount, will go remind my self but im pretty sure there were a few holes. I am right in thinking that there are projectors with some sort of lamp offer, sure i saw them a while ago. I think the head is thinking £300 ish...

laserblazer Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Ask how difficult it is to get at the filter to clean it. Most of ours are dead easy to get to from a chair but some need a ladder. It takes me as long to clean 6 of these as the 20+ easy ones.

I dunno to be honest. But with our current projectors, we'd never get to 20,000 hours before having to replace the entire unit anyway.

Im thinking that the idea is, after 20,000 hours, many years have gone by, and you dont mind paying another £700 for a new unit, deffinatley the way do go i think!

Depends on the manufacturer really. Some like infocus are based in europe and it may take an extra day or so for a bulb to arrive. 1

That also talks about forthcoming models with wireless connectivity to the PC, which would (potentially) save a bit on installation time/cost/mess. I'm about to submit a budget proposal for some new projectors; I will think very seriously about including these rather than what I was going to ask for. I wonder how accurate the 20,000 hours claim is. 2000 hours is about 3 months, so is easy enough to count and see that it is correct; 20,000 hours, however, is nearly 3 years so is either a guess or is based on LED technology from other older devices. Just a thought.

With a lead time of the end of January.

TechSupp Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Have the projectors had their life or is it worth taking out the screwdriver and just cleaning the mirrors and lenses internally, if you were going to replace them, you have nothiong to loose in having a go. Its not that bad a job so long as you're methodical.
