Why use an msi? I'm pretty sure I just dumped a copy on a server and set shortcuts to point to it. (After checking legaility of using it in school.)

I have the MSI created. PM me with your email address and I will send.

TimH that means your users default cache folder is in the profile. Do you really want 400mb of cache stored in people profiles ;)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth]
"CachePath"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\( Your Login Name)\\Application Data\\Google\\GoogleEarth"

Thanks, hadn't noticed that but as our kids share a single mandatory profile, I don't think it's an issue.

(I just prefer running software from a single location rather than spreading x00 copies, if possible.)

Isn't the network install method sufficent for you?

network install method ? Please enlighten me...

Just install to a shared drive on the network. Just make sure you choose custom install and change the location of the cache to the shared drive to.

Copy shortcut to redirected startmenu / desktop, job done.

You can now download my MSI from:

My Hosting Mirror - For details of availability PM me

The user cache is stored in c:\program files\google\google earth\usercache

It is set to use a maximum of 400mb as per the default. Everyone has full write permissions on the usercache folder.

PM me if you have any problems.

If you download from me please post a message saying, just so I know how popular it is.

If my MSI's are popular I will upload more that may be of use.

Not tested user based installs, but your welcome to test. We work here with machine deployment so never tried it.

Let me know if you have any problems, or even if it works ;)

Seems Okay so far, only that it places the shortcut on your OWN desktop if you run it under userbased install, so I removed the desktop shortcut creation from the package.

We dont let our staff store things on the desktop as it is a redirected shared desktop (icon deployment so much quicker)

Apart from that it's great.

Thanks!!

Yeh left it all in as its easier then adding it again.

How do you implement the redirected desktop thing?

We *may* be interested :D

Can they set background etc and play with shortcuts?

Cheers
