Ours went down as well. Ended up creating a single .html file which displayed the school was closed message. Have asked LEA for reason as the Head wants an explanation.

Heard back from the LEA the problem was down to high cpu usage on the hosting server

Ours died yesterday and today as it got hit for weather news. As in, died completely in a 'Service unavailable' kinda way, so couldn't even make a plain HTML page...

I went after some more info of my own and found this:

Reverse IP Lookup - Find Other Web Sites Hosted on a Web Server

From where I discovered EMBC serve 151 school sites (Northants and Notts) through one IP!

(I imagine this is common with clustered servers/virtualisation and whatnot, but you can bet the EMBC implementation leaves a lot to be desired!) ;)

....so they are hosting multiple schools off one server with no redundancy.... great =(

oh right, do you when from?

i basically redesigned our school website using joomla during November/December only to find that certain features would not work and after contacting LCC IT Support was told that cms systems are not supported and should not be used

Was actually caused by the main uplink from met net in london having a problem. (problem is still there) however midlands/above are being routed round.

Seems we have a dedicated server for our website, thanks EMBC! I'm wondering where all the other Leicestershire sites are hosted as web1.embc.uk.com is Notts.

Edit: It lies. If you know other domains, and search those, then it changes its mind. ;)

If anyone is interested this is the closing response to my support call:

"Due to the amount of users accessing the web server to up date there web

sites the server over loaded and had to catch up with requests this is why

access was deined to some users and between 7am and 8 am."

Grammer and spelling aside, this isn't a good enough answer for us and completely ignored my inquiries into whether measures would be put in place to this happening again.

If we are not reassured then we will be looking elsewhere for our hosting.

Ours was down last night around 10pm and the answer I got was 'Is it back up now? Yes? I'll close the call then'.

Not really what I was looking for!

Web1 or Web2 sparkeh?
