Dos_Box Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I've just put W7 (x64) on an old Optiplex GX620 for a freind and have 2 problems: 1. The onboard sound card has no drivers. I know that this has always been an issue with the GX620, and have heard that there are drivers available, does anyone know where they are? 2. The Broadcom NIC is not picking up DHCP! I've updated teh drivers to the latest Broadcom release for W7 and they were acepted without fault, however it is still not accepting an address. Any help?
DrCheese Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 1. The onboard sound card has no drivers. I know that this has always been an issue with the GX620, and have heard that there are drivers available, does anyone know where they are? As far as I know, the Vista ones from the Dell website should work fine....
mounters Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 What's the sound device on it? I spent a long time finding sound drivers for a GX520 (Soundmax AD1028), I've got 32bit drivers that work for it version number is 5.12.1.7010
mac_shinobi Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 update bios / firmware on computer and also try either xp or vista drivers ( relevant to the OS ie 32 or 64 bit ) assuming its 64 bit so clearly the 64 bit xp or vista drivers and see if its any different - if still issues with the broadcom then it would be better to get a dedicated NIC ie intel and possibly the same for the sound card obviously making sure its windows 7 compatable ie creative or m audio
pscott Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Drivers and Downloads Should work for your sound drivers 1
Dos_Box Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Thanks for that, the sound drivers work a treat. Now I've only got the problem of the Broadcom NIC. It's a NetXtreame 57xx and has teh latest drivers from Broadcom instaled, the only thing is it is still not acceptign a DHCP address, no matter what speed and flow settign I set it too. Lookigjn on the net I see many other people having issues with it as well (mostly DELL users), but it is, according to Microsoft a supported device, especially since it had drivers installed as part of the W7 installation. Very puzzling!
MYK-IT Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Just a thought...could the IPV6 be causing issues??? could try disabling it to ensure only using IPV4 protocol.
ZeroHour Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Also what is the dhcp server? Do manual settings work?
Dos_Box Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 It's the Regus one (out of my control), but I sahll try settign a 'random' IP within the given range. As for IP6, yes, I've tried disabling that
Dos_Box Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 I've set a static IP (no conflicts), and can ping all the internal servers, gateway etc, but still cannot ping external sites or access any web sites. My desktop (going through the same switch) can ping everythign (and is on DHCP). I'm pretty sure it's the Broadcom NIC where teh problem lays. Does anyone have a link to a DELL Broadcom 57xx (Vista x64) driver I can try?
ZeroHour Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hmm tbh if ping works internally then the nic appears to work. Never really mess with flow control etc settings as they can mess things up. Our GX620's seem to be fine here with W7 but I have only tested 32bit. Is their a good reason for x64?

I've updated teh drivers to the latest Broadcom release for W7 and they were acepted without fault, however it is still not accepting an address. Any help? I downloaded all the main drivers from Intel and Broadcom, matched the chipsets and tried XP and Vista drivers. Seemed to work OK, inc DHCP as I imaged my 620 once I had activated the license. Picked up the sound drivers from windows update after trying to run some drivers I found that didn't work.

Ben-UK Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Hello Did you ever solve your problem with the Broadcom NIC not picking up a DHCP address. We are having the same problem here on Dell Optiplex 380's with Broadcom NetLink intergated NIC's. Set to static it works fine. We are running Win XP Pro SP3 32Bit. Tried the latest drivers from Broadcom's web site from the current gen and previous gen download links still no joy. Any help or info would be great ! Thanks Ben
Dos_Box Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 The DHCP issue turned out to be something that was not related to the PC I'm afraid. It was a networking problem.

ZeroHour Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Ben: does it get an ip if you put it in as a static dhcp entry? I take it since dhcp is not working PXE is not either? Are all your models having this issue?

Are all your models having this issue? The computer works fine when gived a static IP address. We think its on all 100 computers. Not turned them all on yet, 5 that are on so far all have the same problem We have tried 1 computer on 5 different switches, still the same no IP from DHCP Thanks Ben
ZeroHour Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 How full is your dhcp scope? We had an issue with dhcp where it was trying to give out invalid ip addresses when it got full so we had to put in blank entries to stop it using those ip's.

ZeroHour Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 We use the range 192.168.0.2->192.168.2.254 here and we had to add: 192.168.0.255 192.168.1.255 to the exclusions as dhcp was trying to give them out which did not work. Possibly try excluding the .255 addresses from your dhcp.
Ben-UK Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Doubt that's the problem as DHCP has been working fine up until now with all of the other clients we've had but I gave it a go anyway. No joy though.
Ben-UK Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hello, Just to tie this problem up we had with the dell optiplexs 380's After a clean installed of windows xp pro with sp3 the onboard nic's pick up a dhcp address in a few seconds !!
