Hello, I'm working with Exchange 2007 and have a request to share around 400 external contacts with a group of 6 users on the network. Only the 6 users should be able to edit and add new contacts to the group, all the users are running Outlook 2003 to 2010. Another request is the ability to message the whole group in one go and also pick out selected contacts to mail. Is Public Folders the best way to go about this ? Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks Ben

Thanks for the replies. I understand what your saying about the excel temp file during the save process. So i over come this by setting the permissions on the folder containing the excel file ??

Hello, Got a strange problem with file permissions on our 2008 R2 server. The file is located in path \\server\shared area\department\excelfile.xls Permissions on the excel file are currently inherited from the folder above. I have to go advanced the change permissions and untick include inheritable perssmions. This now allows me to edit the users who need access. I set the sercuity permissions as, SYSTEM = FULL Administrators (server\administrators) = FULL User 1 = Modify User 2 = Modify User 3 = Modify User 4 = Modify Now the problem appears Any of the 4 users open the file, make a change and save. It resets the sercuity permissions, just wipes out what i set above. When any of the users make that change they appear in the sercuity permissions with full control and become the owner. Even if i go to advanced permissions and set a deny on the Take Ownership for the user it still over rides it. Anyone see this before or am i missing something simple... If you need anymore info just let me know. Thanks Ben

Thanks for that! I am able to connect now from the windows 7 computer.
-
Thanks that. Tried it with hostname\username still no access under windows 7 Hostname\username under win xp still works fine. Must be a setting in win7 somewhere that's getting in the way. Thanks ben

OK stupid question, how do i find the host name of the mac ?
-
When the box pops up for user name and password on win7 to access the mac im using the format macipaddress\username - password Its not like you say defaulting to the domain\username the windows 7 computer is on.
-
Yes the windows 7 computers are on the domain. The 2 macs only 1 is on the domain and listed in Active Directory. The mac that is listed in AD i am able to connect to. The mac I am struggling to connect to is not on the domain. Put windows xp computers can still connect no problems, its just affecting win 7 Thanks for the help.

Hello, Im trying to access the mac via a unc path from the run menu on the win 7 computer. The same way works fine under windows xp. The mac does have a basic password set, could windows 7 be wanting a more complex password than win xp and thats why it wont let me connect ?? Thanks Ben

Hello, I'm trying to access a mac running OSX 10.3.9 from a Windows 7 Pro with SP1 computer. We have 2 mac's on the network both running OSX 10.3.9 On a Windows XP Pro SP3 computer I can access both mac's with no problems However on the Win7 computer I can access one of the mac's fine. But the other mac prompts for a user name and password that I enter and it fails to connect Comes back with "logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" The same user name and password work fine on the Win XP Pro computer connecting to the same mac. Anyone got any ideas why Win 7 is having issues ? Thanks Ben

When you say ACL's you mean access control list's right ? So just to confirm with mac osx 10.3.9 there's no way I can set permissions like I can and do in windows server. Is Tiger 10.4 ??

Thanks for the reply I can see now option for SMB under the Sharing options in system preferences ?? Ben

Afternoon all, Quick question about OSX 10.3.9 and setting file permissions for windows clients. Got an old mac running 10.3.9 with an atteached external HDD for storaging data. The mac is joined to the 2003 domain. Users connect to the drive via \\mac ip address\path\ It appears that everyone on the domain can access the shared drive and do what they want delete, move, rename etc I go to "sharing" set-up on the mac and select windows sharing, but there's only on/off options. Sure there should be more options for setting up access right etc Any help would be great. Thanks Ben

Thanks for the reply. Tired it but did not work This is what i need to do, The Open File - Security Warning dialog box is displayed when you try to silently install a hotfix or an update by using a Visual Basic script in Windows XP Service Pack 2 Where would i add this code to your script to get it to work ?? set oShell= CreateObject("Wscript.Shell") set oEnv = oShell.Environment("PROCESS") oEnv("SEE_MASK_NOZONECHECKS") = 1 oShell.Run "c:\ms04-038\WindowsXP-KB834707-x86-enu /quiet /passive /norestart",0,True oEnv.Remove("SEE_MASK_NOZONECHECKS")

Hello, Trying to make use of your script at the moment, thanks ! However cant seem to get it to work I have the script set to run at start up but nothings happening, windows displays running start up scripts for 5 seconds then displays the user login box (win xp sp3) If I try running the script while logged on it runs and opens the "open file security warning" box for dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe with Run or Cancel options that i have to manually select. I was under the understanding the /q switch in the script should stop this ?? Any help would be great !

Thanks for the replies lads ! Managed to sort it out yesterday. Had to go to Printer properties, Configuration Tab, Acquire Settings Button, Untick Auto and leave the option set to "Device Which Connect With Printer Port" Hopefully this helps someone out in the future !

Hello, Got a problem here with 2 Konica Minolta printers, Bizhub C751 and C550. When accessing the printer properties for either printer it take at least 20 seconds to load the properties page Latest drivers are installed from KM web site, the system has just been re-built from the mater image hoping that would clear the problem. I can install the printer on my computer and it loads the properties in 2 seconds and its the same on another test Dell computer. The problem is only affecting the 2 computers that are in the same room as the printers. Tried turning the Windows Firewall off. Google showed a link to a similar thread and told to clear out the c:\windows\prefetch folder, no joy Anyone come across this problem before ? Thanks for the help

Check this one out for £450 ! Really good spec for the money, Toshiba Satellite Pro L650-166
