office set up with new user!

hello all,

just a quick one sorry if its been posted cant find it, i have just done a new image and each time a user logs in for the first time it requires to run the setup for about 2 mins, is there anyway to disable this or even hide it,

This seems to be an issue with 2003 office. I could never find a way around it. Although ours only takes about 30 secs.

We have this Issue too, Ive spent a few hours googling it and still come up with nothing. What annoys me the most is kids click Cancel because the beleve its quicker (I've told them and the staff not to) so they get office open a few seconds quicker but then it comes up next time they open office and never goes away.

Might be fluke, might not be, but ran each 2003 app as local administrative user, then copied that users profile to default user. Don't get the prob any more (which was especially bad when running word).

Something similar to what f21970 suggested would do in relation to the ntuser.dat file.

 

Did something similar here, but just edited and modified the default user's ntuser.dat file with the following changes.

You can do this by loading the default ntuser.dat from the reference build / image into the registry hive on another computer to edit/modify.

Enter User Information

This would be the name of the school in the name and company fields, but remember to add your own details by viewing same location of registry on a computer with correct details.

"UserName"=hex:{enter own school name in hex}

"UserInitials"=hex:{enter own school name in hex}

 

Basically, it is the same as installing everything with the administrator account on a reference computer and copying the ntuser.dat file across to the default ntuser.dat file, but this only changes the startup characteristics of MS Office 2003 starting up.
