How do you deal with anoying/rowdy students?

Somehow some students got hold of a nickname of mine and have been shouting it as I go by, so I had enough and said my name is "insertname", OK!

They nodded so they understood now they keep saying it as I go by because I let them know I was anoyed  rather than telling them shouting is inappropriate.

So what would you do next?

If it's only a few of them, take them to one side, and let them know that you're being serious. Perhaps an hour at lunchtime will help them to remember your name.

Failing that, raise it with your line manager perhaps who may be able to talk to the tutors/HOY?

I think it depends on the kids really & what/how they are saying it. I find selective deafness in school is a great thing. Often if you rise to something they do it all the more. If you ignore it they may get bored and stop.

If it is getting to you and shows no sign of stopping then I would go to their Head of Year/Pastoral manager and have a word.

It should be dealt with exactly the same as if you were any member of staff. Ask your LM and see what the normal discipline would be. If it would be detention then it's detention, but make sure you follow the same rules so they know speaking to you out of turn is no different to any other teacher.

Some students are just idiots.

I stopped working at my old school 3 years ago. About 6 months ago a ran into one of their ex students (was now 18) in a takeaway. He decided it was a good idea to follow me half a mile home yelling my name continuousely my first name at me. I'm just gald he got bored of it.

You have to just ignore it, everyone gets things like that now and again. If they find its actually getting to you, you'll soon find its not just a handful but a lot more of the school. They like to share these things.

Just ignore them and go about your business. Who has time for silly kids? :D

Ignore it... Don't be seen to let it rile you... Shrug it off.

It will probably get worse before it gets better.

If it's abusive (not just annoying) go through your school's usual disciplinary procedure. be that a disciplinary slip, instant detention or whatever. If you aren't sure what sanctions are at your school, double check with another member of staff.
