There's quite a lot of help information built into it. Point your web browser at https://[ip of smartcache] tell IE you're not bothered about the certificate error. Log in and click the big green question mark.

Hi peeps,

Apologies if it seems like I'm pimping :hat:, but there's plenty of good information, and a place to discus RM products over at the RM Communities Forum. (that is unless you can find it in the RM Knowledgebase)

Whats the best way in deploying the RM SmartCache Client (MSI File)

We are a full Windows network, no RM.

I couldn't get the one provided to work, I think it's intended for an RM network.

I just captured one using WinInstallLE and bunged it out with a GPO.

If you've just bought your SmartCache it should be new enough to use AD authentication, thus rendering the client software redundant. This was only made available very recently, and I'm actually still waiting for the upgrade to come through on mine, but have you considered this at all? I'd certainly recommend looking into it if you plan on supporting anything other than XP clients.

Now I know why I do not like RM!

Created a IT Policy, applied the policy to the IT Users (i.e. ME!!)

try and go to mail.google.com............BLOCKED! by Default policy when I've set me to use the IT Policy!

Anyone

I have the client installed on my machine

this is driving me crazy!!

I re-did the policy (IT Policy) and set my self up as unfiltered and im getting blocked by the Default policy, how  when I've set my self as unfiltered.

Hope folk don't mind me coming in on this thread with an add on question but reading it reminded me that we have a redundant SmartCache2 and I was wondering what to do with it?

It was replaced last year by the Espresso team who installed their own Linux Espresso server as a replacement for the SmartCache2. As the latter hasn't any space for additional drives etc we haven't put it to any use since but otherwise the spec of the machine and condition are good so we really want to find a good use for it. Anyone else had this situation and if so what did you do with it.

I haven't actually done so but when I was considering replacing mine lkast year I did have a think. Possibilities included:

  • Using it as a WSUS server (since if you lose the drive you're really only losing the cached updates and installation database, which can be re-downloaded and rebuilt respectively)
  • Partnering it with an iSCSI NAS and using it as a non-critical Hyper-V host, assuming it has the necessary processor capabilities.

  • Thanks 1

Have you checked the identification settings.

From the home page > maintenance > RM SmartTracker Identification

The next page gives you the chose of Active Directory authentication you have to go in and configure the domain setting at the bottom of that box before you can click the Active Directory authentication box.

When this is set you be able to pick up user and machines correctly and move on to the filtering rules.
