Robz Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Human Rights Groups are calling for Video Games such as Call of Duty and Far Cry to observe humanitarian laws and human rights in their games, (full story HERE ). What do you guys think?
DevilsAdvocate Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 People don't play games because they are like 'the normal world'. I play them to escape it.
sted Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 i can see their point to a degree but games are about escapism and not worrying about consequences. Most people can tell the difference betwwen a game and reality and dont go round tesco with ak47's in real life but in a game its fun and i would wager from a psycological point of view quite good at relieving stress. Take it to the extreme and in say a racing game have a crash then you spend hours filling out insurance forms.
TechMonkey Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Does that mean Risk the board game will be banned? What about Monopoly, for profiteering!
K.C.Leblanc Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I don't even want to start thinking about the ethical conotations of whack a mole
sted Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Does that mean Risk the board game will be banned? What about Monopoly, for profiteering! how about hungry hungry hippos for encouraging people to eat too much lol
featured_spectre Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 The day they incorporate ultra realistic rules of engagement is the day i stop playing, as I dont want to play as a british soldier and look out for americans firing at me as well as insurgents....
Fatmas Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 What a waste of money this study was. Here is my study into video games summarised in five words: IT IS NOT REAL LIFE.
Robz Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 perhaps the ultra realism will affect the scenarios so we have to invade Iraq for oil.....oops i meant WMDs
Robz Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 IT IS NOT REAL LIFE. Try telling the chav on the corner that They think we all will become phsycomaniac killers from playing these games, don't they realise we're not all like those americans?
korifugi Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 It's yet again the media looking for a scapegoat - that scapegoat being the gamer (again). I've now taken to occasionally wearing t-shirts that proclaim 'video games made me do it' There seems to be a crusade from some that think we should never play them as we're all obviuosly being trained to be k!ller$. Actually - to look at the list there... There's only really one genre! Classic one-sidedness from the media again, bravo. I'll stop there as if I carry on any further I'll end up getting this moved behind the red door!
Arcath Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 CoD7: Mall Cop Stun Guns only as real guns are too violent, and you have to call the police everytime a customer threatens you

This issue seems to come up time and time again, and each time it fizzles out because there's no solid evidence to link violence in games to violence in real life.
timzim Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 3 words. ITS - A - GAME! Erm, that's 4 words, if you get the punctuation right...
sted Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 CoD7: Mall Cop Stun Guns only as real guns are too violent, and you have to call the police everytime a customer threatens you cant even use them they can induce seizures it will be nerf guns
mac_shinobi Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 if you get paid that much money to put that much time and effort into it then something is a miss here because as mentioned above 4 words would of done it ie It is a game mutual feelings ref trying to escape real life hence playing the game in the first place etc
