Windows information gathering tool

Need a recommendation on a information gathering tool for Windows 2003 / Windows 2008 to run locally.

 

Ideally I would like to gather the following and save a text file or spreadsheet.

 

• Network Settings
  
• Disk Configuration
  
• Windows Version
  
• Service Packs installed
  
• Hot fixes installed
  
• Applications
  
• Hardware Configuration (CPU/Memory ....)
  
• ....
  

Any recommendations ?

Hi Andy,

 

If you can find a little space on one of your servers, or put together a small Linux server, you can use Open Audit. It is a fantastic piece of free (open source) software that will get everything you need and more. We use it to successfully audit 1000+ machines at login to give us up to date information on hardware, software, and user logins.

Just to add, I'm not looking for an audit tool although will probably to the trick.

 

I after more of a standalone Info gather/diagnostic tool so aid a support ticket, which I can send to the user and say run this and send me the output!

 

Just to add to my list of features needed. - Event Logs please!

Could alter the VBS script mentioned a couple above, remove unncessary vars, give it a couple of msgbox's and send that out - of course giving credit where credit is due for the script ;-)

one to add to the list - Im not against the vbscript method but if the asker is not familiar with scripting then might be a bit daunting or may not have time to edit it to get the output they are after and am by no means bashing scripting as a method to use as I use scripts myself but just a thought is all

Yes, I'm not a scripting expert and found the SYDI utility to be very useful. It does everything automagically and creates lots of data in a user-friendly format for review or filing for future use.

SCCM will do this for you - but possibly overkill for your purposes.
