What do you send to parents? (AUP)

Our AUP document is quite lengthy so we've made this available to view online but will provide a printed version to any parent/guardian who is not able to view it online, upon request. Would this be acceptable?

 

As such, I'm wondering what sort of letters you send home to parents to get their consent? Anyone got any examples they can share?

on the first day of each new school year we hand out an amended AUP to all children which their parents and themselves have to sign. Failure for either one to sign results in the child not using ICT. Its been a standard part of our policy for a while now and it works well.

I think you'd need to make it more obvious than just putting it online - either get a signed copy off everyone, or have some app that pops it up periodically, but I don't think it would suffice to publish it online and leave the users to go find it themselves.

 

Like Nephilim, we get Y7 and new pupils to sign AUP (counter-signed by parents), plus we remind them of it at the start of each year. If the AUP changes at any point, we get new signed copies off everyone at Information Evenings or parents evenings.

 

You could possibly get away with a letter to parents saying "AUP is online, your acceptance will be assumed", not sure though...

I should add that the AUP is displayed in a box, in school, every term. The letter being sent out will link to the policy and will have a form to return to school.

 

So that's:

• Parent getting letter, reading policy, signing
  
• Pupil reading policy with parent, signing
  
• Pupil seeing policy at log on in school, agreeing
  

Should suffice?

Risky assumption that the pupil (or even the parent?) is actually reading it, but that's another story!

Include somewhere in it:

 

"You probably want to cross out the next line"

"If I don't cross out this line, I agree to give all the staff their own pony"

 

Win-win - you either know they've read it or you get a pony

Heres a copy of the one i done at my old school.

Edit as you like.

 

Students got it in their welcome pack and parents had to sign aswell as the students.

 

we had a prompt open as soon as students signed in saying do you agree to the AUP(which was shown on screen). if they decline they got logged off. It was part of our securus system.
