They looked at running FMS over a Citrix-based network but decided in the end to go fat for the FMS machines only. I can't remember the specifics, but they found that it didn't run happily on thin client / or they weren't happy with how it was running.. That's not to say it can't be done... just that fat proved the way forward! (if only... she says, patting her lager belly) Ahem..

We are just in the process of sorting out remote access and this was one of the tests performed and failed badly.
CyberNerd Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 maybe look into running the apps in Application Isolation Environment mode (in Citrix) it fixes a lot of the software that traditionally doesn't run in TS, including some dodgy 16bit apps. SIMS .net works perfectly in TS, we have it running on our terminal server with only one problem (which is you have to re-run simsapplicationsetup.exe whenever SIMS gets upgraded otherwise it throws a wobbly). That said, I flat out refused to install FMS on it when I got asked to. However the neolithic version of NovaT that we run works fine with it.

Mind you this is for remote access at the moment for the SLT members and there is only one person using this. We did have initial FMS problems but they are now resolved by sorting out permissions and the ugly 16bit application issues. I don't know how sims.net will run when 4-5 people try to use it at the same time via TS. Will be upgrading the server soon so it has plenty of RAM. Ash.
SwedishChef Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 We have a cluster of 9 terminal servers and run fms+sims.net on them absolutly fine, FMS can run like a dog but thats now down to AV. The only drawback is.... 1. The stupid animated splash screen that fades in and out on a TS session. 2. The even more stupid idea to run reports on a common folder per machine, so on a terminal server if you run more than two users running reports it gets a bit messy....our support providors solution....."install an instance of sims.net into each users home folder"...yer great one with over 100 sims.net users. feel free ask any questions in using sims.net in a TS environment.
