Is it just me or does anyone else find it extremely frustrating to get in touch with Dell to get a quote for education.

Does anyone know of any decent ITX PC's and monitors (looking for something all-in-one)? we're looking at getting 60 to install in each classroom for lesson monitor and smartboard projection/control

we are a Dell premier partner who specialises in Dell for education , if you would like to pm me your details I can get you a quote prepared straight away ,;)

Try and get a Dell premier account setup, then you can go online and get the best possible pricing - the prices we get on ours for even 1 unit cannot be matched by one of the account managers if I ring up and tell them i'm ordering 100!

All ordering is done online on credit account, makes it all really simple.

Dell are a pain for quotes. They never get mine right. Months ago i asked for a quote for 40 LTO 2 tapes. The quote come back for 4 Kettle leads

I prefer getting Dell kit through a reseller, don't bother with Dell education any more as they don't ever reply. Used to use them a lot but they have just got worse and worse. Shame really as i really like the usff base units they do which stand on the back of a lcd. Lots of my schools have them as the kids can't pull the leads out!! Plus the dual headphone socket on the speaker bar is a bonus.

Only have Dell 8 x 2950 poweredge servers here but needed some caddies for extra drives, trying to get hold of them from Dell is like plaiting fog

Hi,

Got sick of Dell here, went out on a limb and bought a load of Stone PCs - good price, and got imaging, installation and pretty much anything else I wanted thrown in. We got SFF desktops, but they do at least one ITX model.

Hi,

had similar problems with dell education in the past - can't want the business.

Can be cheaper through a reseller than dealing direct with dell believe it or not.

Also i find it easier to get the product you actually need!

I've never bothered going through them directly, get yourself a reliable reseller. We have a lot of Dell kit here (about 15 servers and hundreds of desktops and laptops) and have never run into any major issues. I can very strongly recommend CCS Media and we buy most of our kit through them (good for hardware, software, MS licensing, the lot). Ask for Wayne Overton, very good guy to deal with.

I am terribly sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting in touch with a Dell Education specialist. I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

I've found that when you go direct to Dell for education equipment, they automatically assume they have a right to charge what they want.

It takes time to get a decent account manager, before we became a Dell Partner, they were always quoting us end user pricing (when we were a reseller) - eventually we got a great Account Manager and haven't looked back since!

From our perspective, its a godsend that they are awful, as it means schools approach resellers to quote for their projects!

I have a love-hate relationship with our account manager. We've got access to Dell Premier Pages on their website, and we seem to go through phases when our account manager can't seem to get anywhere near the premier page pricing for equipment.

Recently however she's been brilliant - although we're getting a new account manager from 5th November when they're moving the Education team up to a central site in Glasgow (along with their support engineers apparently!). Will have to see what our new account manager is like!

Yes, our internal educational account manager never replies to our calls / emails even when we're chomping at the bit to throw money their way. Find a reseller you like and go with them would be my advice!

Bri, thanks for stopping by - unfortunately most of us here are having trouble with your UK counterparts, and you seem to be in the US.

If you can send one of them our way, that would be ace. I'm very keen on Dell kit, but after years of going direct even I've gone through a reseller this year.

We've got a lot of Dell kit in this school, probably about 300 laptops, and 50+ desktop PCs, but we've always brought through a re-seller who also handles our warranty claims. The service is pretty good when done like this, there's always an engineer on site the next day for all warranty claims we've ever made through Dell and the kit is always delivered on time.

I've never tried going direct, and by the sounds of it I'm not going to bother.

http://www.ictltd.co.uk/index.php?cID=1 is the reseller we use - website's basic but the service is excellent.

Online is a good option.

We had big problems with DELL Optiplex a while back, had to keep changing the motherboards cos the capacitors would explode! Don't like them much, but build quality and look is good and they were cheap so kept going back to buy more.

Had loads of account managers, one a month at one point. Could never get through, always end up with answer phone, and the education team couldn't/wouldn't help.

Ended up buying online, get really great deals, especially from the home/small business section rather than education. Account Manager couldn't beat price, occasionally a reseller Kelway could get his Dell account manager to give a better deal, but other than that online was best.

School just needed to get a credit card. The website didn't even enforce the maximum 5 purchases per customer!

To top it all, after ordering, we received an email from our account manager saying thank you for the purchase!!! So somewhere on their system it recognised us as existing account holders, and passed the details to the account manager. We got a thank you for ordering something that the account manager priced for us at over £100 more per unit. Oh what larks! :o)

I'd be happy to. I'll send a mail and ask them to address the issues that you've mentioned.

Very sorry to hear about the issues, please let me know if I can of any help.

Like I said, we've always gone through a reseller and never had any problems, but it's still good to see this kind of support from Dell. The hardware we've bought has always been good and the R710's are on my next summer's 'maybe' list so nice to see Dell trying to sort out any customer problems. :)

Hi Liam,

We're still using our old/current account manager but I was just wondering when we're told of who our new account manager will be, and when they'll be introducing themselves to us?

Posted

Don't have contact with Dell sales but yesterday's contact with tech supp was excellent. We've got a machine with a faulty hard disc (run diagnostics which say so). Call the support line, give the service tag and the diagnostic code and the guy says "new disc with you tomorow". couple of hours later I get a confirmation call that the disc has been dispatched and to make sure the old one is ready for collection

New disc arrived about 1000 this morning and all is well. Can't really fault service like that - well done Dell :-)
