Don't have contact with Dell sales but yesterday's contact with tech supp was excellent. We've got a machine with a faulty hard disc (run diagnostics which say so). Call the support line, give the service tag and the diagnostic code and the guy says "new disc with you tomorow". couple of hours later I get a confirmation call that the disc has been dispatched and to make sure the old one is ready for collection

New disc arrived about 1000 this morning and all is well. Can't really fault service like that - well done Dell :-)

I've had very similar experiences with their support guys. The storage people are particularly good and always a laugh to work with. Our NBD warranty has always been NBD and replacement HDDs show up the next morning like they're supposed to. Sun managed to beat them once by getting me a replacement drive within two hours, but that's more than I expect on an NBD. Dell aren't perfect, but they deserve credit for their business support.

As Simon's just said, go through a good reseller like his company and you should be fine. :drunken_smilie:

Hi Liam,

We're still using our old/current account manager but I was just wondering when we're told of who our new account manager will be, and when they'll be introducing themselves to us?

Hi Soulfish

From 5th November 2009 the Dell UK Public Sector telesales organization is restructuring. We will be more closely aligned to you our customers and the communities in which you operate. To facilitate this improvement we will be moving to a centralised function based in Glasgow. Our goal is to increase efficiency through standardising processes, improving telesales tools and processes and to benefit from being physically located amongst the supporting functions to the sales teams.

The new account managers will be spending the next month learning about and introducing themselves to their new accounts. These account managers have been Dell account management for at least 2 years and will take over the existing telephone and fax numbers on November 5th. In the mean time they will be conducting introductory conference calls with the existing account managers and their customers.

I hope this answers your question.

Kind regards

Liam

Forum, I am sorry to hear many of you have encountered some issues working with Dell UK in Education. Liam has already posted his contact details but please find mine attached. As Liam has indicated we have almost completed a major refocusing of our Education business and will soon be in a position to publish this. In the mean time please bear with us and if you have any issues please do not hesitate to contact either of us.

regards

as i have posted before,

we use adam stolarski as our schools account manager.

he has always been excellent at reponding with good quotes, usually within a day or so of the request.

however, he has been a breath of fresh air compared to the previous three (at least)for his area, they were dire!

Hi,

had similar problems with dell education in the past - can't want the business.

Can be cheaper through a reseller than dealing direct with dell believe it or not.

Pucker your lips up, loudly suck in a lung full of air gently getting quieter as you can't fit no more in and exhale the words back down the phone "You'll have to do better than that"

9 times out of 10 they give you the reseller prices if not better, amazing what that noise does!

We ended up going with stone, got a cracking deal no-one else could touch anywhere near, mind you had to do a lot of sucking for the price! :getmecoat:

We deal with the Dell education team direct, over the last couple of year we have had 4 account manager, but as they aren't the people that we deal with day to day then I haven't noticed a lot of pain during the change over. The biggest concern I have is that they are moving the offices from Bracknel up to Edinburgh/Glasgow (can't remember which off the top of my head) and we are getting a new account liason that we will need to break in.

With the relationship I have built up over the ppast three years I know I'm getting great prices and for the last to major projects the resellers starting price was already higher than the direct price and after the usual arguing between the three of them I've always ended with something extra for dealing direct, be it price, add ons or a service.

I think it's all down to the relationship you create with your account liason, forget the account manager, your liason will know what they can do price wise and just needs the account manager to sign it off with their finance team. Also my liason lets me know when target time is due and we sometimes put off an order til closer to the deadline, helps get the yes when you want to push the price.
