A wise idea, I find that problematic staff and "helpful" parents are usually the ones who make me want to grab the nearest firearm and show them how problematic I can be

I had this at my last place, I gave them the main passwords when I told them I was leaving, within 2 days the head felt it nessacery to pin them on the staff room noticeboard for all to see, so every user was using Administrator when they felt that the system was being funny, so at that point I gave up caring and abandoned it and all the problems they made such as deleting shared work, drivers, pupils entire folders etc...... Some people are dangerous with admin passwords and should never be trusted.

 

As for the copier, do as has been said, give them an IP to use and then ask for the CD leaving. The firm I use want to install it as part of the deal as too many people don't do it correctly, but you sit with them, they ask for the admin password on the form but you can tell them they won't get it as you will be there on the day to assist them and take notes in case of server failure. In my case I just told them I will set it up, and if I have issues I will phone you. Its worked fine since day 1 and never gone wrong! I can even get it to do more things than they normally set them up for

Re copier/printer .

I went in after school on Thursday night ( Its great, nice and quite just the mice eating away under the floor ) and did a bit on this new network also put a notice on the copier "I require a static IP address on 192. etc and sm 255.etc. and ask for there Mac .address and driver Disk", so I went in last night, ( mice are now in one of the cupboards . O-well not my problem now. One of the children had a shock when they came backfrom holidays, In the classroom draw was a nice family of mice..! Its never been the same since I left 2 years ago !).

So I looked at my note on the copier and the parent/ school chairperson (who ordered this machine) had put on it that I did not need that.. :x What the fxxx does she know about servers and networks ?.. I have put on it, no IP address no network printer..

They may soon appreciate all the free hard work I do with the computers( with no thanks), they have mist the use of the system on the inset day when they wanted to print out some labels and they will have to wait a bit longer because I have a few issues to sort out yet.

Have you thought of giving the supplier a ring and having a quick chat with them, I appreciate its going behind this chairperson / head/ parent etc but I find it much better to talk to the people who know what they are going on about as messages get mixed up, they may have even sent a form out for a network check before installation and this person may have just filled it in all wrong anyway! so may be worth a ring and see if you can work together for both your benifits?

Hi. Although I only live 150 mts. from the school and I'm only there when I choose to go Eg. when there is no one there !..

I'm half expecting a desperate phone call from school saying the man's at school and needs to put this printer onto the system .

Being that I am trying to get the roof of my garage/flat I'm building put on before the bad weather, I will just have a word with him then on the phone to sort things out, he will understand..

But thanks for the idea.
