Hightower Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I don't jump on any of these band wagons because I don't read Got to admit - the only books I read (apart from all the Dan Brown one's) are computing books - sad I know
sidewinder Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 computing books on holiday?? hardly getting away from it all is it!
mattx Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I don't jump on any of these band wagons because I don't read Don't or can't..... There's any oxymoron in there somewhere...
webman Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Don't or can't..... There's any oxymoron in there somewhere... Er, don't I read a couple of IT-related magazines and that's about it. When I was a kid I used to read all sorts of books but gradually stopped.

jamesb Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I don't jump on any of these band wagons because I don't read So how's going? Reading's a good, healthy activity.
webman Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Razzle & Knave ? Oh sorry, you said IT mags - for some reason I saw an extra 'T' somewhere.... That's what the internet is for, is it not?
mattx Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 That's what the internet is for, is it not? Well it was why Blue Ray & VHS won the format wars..... I'm looking forward to the 3-D content now as thats made a comeback....
jamesb Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Well it was why Blue Ray & VHS won the format wars..... I'm looking forward to the 3-D content now as thats made a comeback.... Not to mention polaroid cameras lasting so long, until digital cameras became an option.
synaesthesia Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Quite enjoy the books tbh. No more fictional than the Bible - but that's another story (And oddly enough, the only books I've read other than the Red Dwarf ones )
browolf Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 if you want a more "intelligent" da vinci code, read foucault's pendulum by umberto eco.
jcollings Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them." — Mark Twain
Hightower Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them." — Mark Twain Yet what is classed as a good book? Because we all seem to have different perceptions of what a good book is here....
jamesb Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Yet what is classed as a good book? Because we all seem to have different perceptions of what a good book is here.... Pretty much irrelevant. Everyone can define good books for themselves, the main point is that readers are just better.
AyatollahPies Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 So how's going? Reading's a good, healthy activity. You must read books whilst at the Gym or in the swimming pool then. Most folk I know read books whilst sat on their backsides. Healthy for the brain maybe, but not for the body.
Hightower Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Pretty much irrelevant. Everyone can define good books for themselves, the main point is that readers are just better. How is my post irrelevant? It was in response to jcollings quote - if any post (IF) is irrelevant then it would be jcollings, not mine.

Healthy for the brain maybe, but not for the body. There's more kinds of health than just the body. Besides which I walk into town about once a week (14 miles each way), run regularly, fence and exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes each day. Plus reading a book is at least more interactive and energetic than watching television.

Sorry, I should've clarified, the irrelevant comment wasn't about your post but the definition of a good book. Its an individual thing, you decide for yourself whether something's good or not, whether its a book, food, a show, or a computer.
