TheCrust Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Have just finished configuring Win 7 Pro on my laptop, and have the Enterprise / Pro images all ready installed on my WDS box ready for Monday morning. I see that MS decided to keep the bird / leaf theme on the login screen that was introduced in the RC. Does anyone else think the dove / olivebranch visual is a bit..... um..... gay? I know we can change this (and I already have on the laptop, and plan a suitably "corporate" branding of the schools rollout) but out of interest I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. When we rolled the RC out to the IT department earlier this year, the general concensus of the login screen was it looked "very hippy" and not all that corporate!
Reaper Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Maybe they're trying to break the IBM look they picked up in the late 80s and early 90s
mac_shinobi Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 any chance of a screen grab to see what its like?
Gatt Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I dont mind it - though looking at replacing it with our own branded background...
cookie_monster Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I'd say a bit like a bad xmas card, tbh i'm not really sure what 'gay' looks like, well other than if it was a picture of Graham Norton
featured_spectre Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 how do you replace the background screen on the login on windows 7?

Here's a pic of our initial login screen now I've been playing. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/thecrust/private/140809-02.jpg
john Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Looks good that its nice and simple Is that a test setup or are you going for it for September?
TheCrust Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks. No, that's the live thing deployed across the entire network now - unless I have a change of heart (or come up with something better!) between now and the start of september. Changing it wouldn't be a problem - we use SCCM so could deploy out new background images fairly routinely: for instance to promote an event within school, or get a message across.
john Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Wow are you all Windows 7 now or mixing 7 and Vista or 7 and XP?
Gatt Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 We plan to be fully windows 7 If I can figure out how to stop RemoteApp FMS breaking our Terminal Server!!
EduTech Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 We plan to be fully windows 7 If I can figure out how to stop RemoteApp FMS breaking our Terminal Server!! Give it a good kicking!! soon stop breaking your poor terminal server then!!
TheCrust Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) Wow are you all Windows 7 now or mixing 7 and Vista or 7 and XP? We were an all-Vista school before and at the moment, we're a mix of 7 and Vista - but only because our rollout is still in progress. By the time the start of term comes around, we aim to be all 7. At least, that is the plan but it's been severely scuppered by HP delivering 300 desktops late.... Edited August 16, 2009 by TheCrust
featured_spectre Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 get an image duplicator. Do 1 image, blitz it across in around 1 min per HD. With W7, you dont need to worry about driver conflicts
john Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Wow sounds good I'd love to Windows 7 all our place, if I wasn't so busy with everything else I'd be putting 7 on to a range of machines to test them out for performance but time is not on my side this holiday, hey maybe at half term
featured_spectre Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Windows 7 here for us, as soon as I am in in september, thats my priority. I have around 2 months to work out all of the bugs.
john Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Wow Must admit when I get time (probably an evening job at home ) My work PC will turn to Windows 7 as its going to be easier to manage the 2008 R2 DCs we now have (well one Physical and one VM to start with till I brave reformatting the Evesham beasts with Intel death warnings about non-2008 compatibility.....
Nick_Parker Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Now there's a thought...... Here's a pic of our initial login screen now I've been playing. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/thecrust/private/140809-02.jpg That look great, where did you get that initial blank blue background?
TheCrust Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 From memory I think it came out of the Beta version and originally had a fighting fish on it, but I could be remembering another one I experimented with previously. I think I have a version after I removed the fish but before I did anything else to it floating around somewhere. If you want a copy to use as a base for your own backgrounds, PM me an email address and I'll bounce it your way.
