Edu-IT Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Personally I would get rid of the clip art type pictures. 1
EduTech Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Nice and Clean! good work mate looks good! I want a joomal site! Why dont you download it then or do you have the same problem we had for years your webspace is provided by the LEA and they only allow HTML Finally managed to let them let us host it ourselves! 1
mossj Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I like it... Following suggestions... - Favicon needs putting in - Upcoming Events should be generated dynamically from a calander. - Don't included pages that aren't finished!! If there not finished don't publish the menu item! - Get a decent commenting extention for your news items, it helps with your SEO too. - On the contact us page your phone icon, hits the fax icon in IE8 - You sub menu is wacked in IE8 (to see go to curriclum then click the Design Technology item) 1
kearton Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 The aspect ratio of some of the photos on the first page are wrong... 1

mossj Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) Cheers - will look at making an favicon of the school crest or something not sure what I can do about the IE8 issues - as thats probably a Joomla thing but will take a look it could be IE8 but it could be all browsers (I don't have any other browser installed to check). You should be able to use some css to sort it out. I suspect the submenu item thing will defentily be a CSS not joomla problem. edit tested with compability view the contact us fax/phone is IE8 specific, but the menu isn't to me it looks like theres to much padding (or a custom bullett point is trying to generate (theres a picture box with a x through it that disappears just after loading)) Edited July 20, 2009 by mossj
pete Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) I'd get a cleaner version of the "keyboard key" logo - the "Maths & Computing" text looks blurred and murky, whereas the SSAT logo looks reasonably nice and clean (though not as clean as the school name text). Poke them for a .psd, .svg or .ai version of their logo. " A pleasant, safe and happy school..." appears to have an extra space before the "A", but it might just be a font thing. Your login box doesn't appear by default in Firefox 3.0.11 (Ubuntu 9.04) - only when I mouseover. (see attached screenshots) Grey centre text under "Summer Break" is a bit too light with a white background on Firefox 3.0.11 (Ubuntu 9.04). You're mixing sans and serif fonts in your news items, pick one and stick with it - I'd personally go all sans The menus on the downloads and parents page also appear to be b0rked (they're way down the page) - see screenshot. Student council news feed is a good idea, it'll get them to write the minutes more promptly *makes note* Finally managed to let them let us host it ourselves! You've probably worked this out by now, but you're aware the LEA can't stop you putting the schools domain/pointing subdomains whereever the hell you like? The school owns the domain (assuming it's a school.county.sch.uk), not the LEA. Edited July 20, 2009 by pete

webman Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Isn't XHTML valid tho... (remove the bit at the bottom that says it is) That won't magically make it valid XHTML though...
mikegayle Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 hi..site is great but have some drawbacks.. 1.the images does not have alternate text. 2.there is no permanent redirect (technically called a "301 redirect").Once you do that, you will get full search engine credit for your work on these sites.
