Corrupt Word/Excel files

i had to recover some files from a computer the other day but a number of the word and excel documents are comming up corrupt.

 

i've done a bit of a search on goolge there are a few recover prog's out there but was wondering if anyone could recommend one, (the cheaper the better)

Try loading them in OpenOffice.org. That usually fixes them for me.

For Word :

 

Go to file --> save as webpage and then save it literally as a webpage / html file.

Not sure about excel ( Im sure a google search ) or loading it into open office may help

Ontrack easy recovery pro does what it says on the tin: don't think it is that expensive can't remember but it does what i want it to do

Word has it's own recovery/repair. File->Open and next to the "Open" button there's a drop-down button - change to "Open and Repair". Failing that, change "open as file type" to "Recover Text From Any File" (or something like that). Not always successful, so I would also use OpenOffice.org.

Opening the files in Notepad can sometimes allow you to recover snippets of information.
