Dos_Box Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 OK, a little bored so I thought I'd start this one off. The rules are these: 1. Must be free 2. Must be installable (not online i.e Flash based games), unless they have online play modes) 3. Windows XP and above only 4. Linux and Mac games may also be posted 5. Good playability is a must. Any rubbish games will be ridiculed. 6. Remakes are allowed and even encouraged 7. Must have a valid download link provided Right, to kick off then, my choice is Oolite. A bang up to date remake of elite with all of the origional maps, ships and gameplay. There are also a host of down loadable add-ons and mission packs as well as extra ships etc. A great way to swallow up several hundred spare hours! Oolite

kmount Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 2. Must be installable (not online i.e Flash based games), unless they have online play modes) Can you clarify whether this would rule out Enemy Territory as it has an online (or do you mean offline) play mode is installable but it is online only.

kearton Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 In my youth, many a happy hour was spent in University computer labs playing this 16-player game on old Macs (LC II's from memory?). Some clever person has ported it to PC: WinBolo http://www.winbolo.com/images/screens/00.jpg http://www.winbolo.com/images/screens/02.jpg
Jamman960 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Brilliant game! used to play it as a student and currently have the pupils at school playing it during lunch times/last few IT lessons of the year Continuum - Meet people from all over the world...then kill them. Liero/Wurmz is also pretty good - last time I looked I couldn't find a good version that works well with xp
jedwards2 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 What part of not online didn't you read? 2. Must be installable (not online i.e Flash based games), unless they have online play modes) Open to interpretation! It IS installable and it DOES have online play modes!
