If anyone isn't familiar with that set of tools, it is worth a look to see what else is there - lots of things that are useful for automation and/or time-saving. I don't mind sharing the batch file I mentioned above, but this one isn't overly long/complex.

I generally do gpupdates of client computers via a batch file, which I have a shortcut to on my desktop. Essentially the batch file runs the following command (having asked for the computer name), but it also checks the PC is available and offers relevant follow-up options too. We don't see a command prompt window with this on our network.

With the demise of the RM forums (at least I assume so - it stopped working for me a long time ago), I've lost contact with everyone who had a copy of my script to flush the contents of the Start Menu cache folders on CC4. Can anyone who sees this and wants the latest version please get in touch with me. This version (now v2.2) is a significant improvement to the version that people have had already. For clarification, this script is for those occasions where shortcuts are corrupted in the Start Menu cache folders, which results in the shortcuts not being delivered to users' profiles. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has managed to get RM to accept that there is a problem that needs fixing here, so I created the script to provide a workaround which helps to avoid otherwise unnecessary rebuilds. I share this with others for free, but I do like to have an idea of how many people out there have it and a way of contacting them in case I update it, which is why I haven't put a direct download link here.

This is only relevant to people that have Frog at their school. I've reached the end of my patience with bulk user housekeeping in Frog. This is a great idea and just what I was looking for. It works on my office PC but I am coming across the crashing issue mentioned by others on student/staff PCs (I've tried generating a new EXE on my PC). Is Windows Management Framework v3.0 required on all computers that will run the EXE, or just the one that generates the EXE? I've also used the source code supplied to generate an EXE that will allow File Stream to be uninstalled (when I get it all working) in case that is required later down the line.

I've tried ZenDesk, OneorZero, OSTicket and a couple of others - the names escape me. The one that has stuck though, mainly because of the interface and the way it works, but also the fantastic community, is Spiceworks. I would heartily recommend it.

That sounds much more like the sort of level I'm aiming at. Are you able to supply further details, particularly of said macro?

We already have a Xibo server but going by what I have seen of the interface, which admittedly is used by another department rather than my own, it is far more complicated than what we were looking for. Is there a cut down basic interface that I'm not aware of?

Hi folks Does anyone have a recommendation for some software or method we could use to produce the below effect? What hardware we have to run it on: A TV screen mounted to the wall in a vertical orientation and a laptop connected to it (physically inaccessible to users). What we need to do with it: We need something which can basically display a single screen with a list of names of students and who they are to see (all typed in by the user). It needs to be updated by our school office staff, so we need something as simple as possible - nothing advanced or complex, just click in a box, type/edit, submit. How we used to do it: We had a set of ASP pages (view/edit/preview), which were located on a 2003 server, these were written by a member of staff who is no longer working for us. These pages never saved the data anywhere and were always causing IIS to crash (which then lost the data in memory), so I have no desire to find out why they stopped working when we upgraded the servers from 2003 to 2012 R2.

Not sure if it is of interest, but I am a member of a group of school network managers/technicians in the south-west Birmingham area who meet on a termly basis to discuss issues/products/etc. We started as a focused group of named schools, but these days it is more open to others who wish to attend. It is a deliberately small and relatively informal meeting - we meet in a meeting room or classroom at any one of the member schools, so as not to incur costs of hiring a venue for the morning. We generally don't invite suppliers in unless there is sufficient interest to see something specific, although saying that there is often a representative from Link2ICT present (as an attendee) because they supply a range of services to most of the member schools and that gives both them and the schools an opportunity to raise issues and awareness of various things (not just because it is on his way to work!) Our next meeting is actually the morning of Tuesday 19th Jan. If anyone (from a school) is interested in joining us, send me a message.

You'll need the client certificate from the smoothwall box installed on the client machines for this too - send it out using a GPO (apply it to authenticated users). You'll also, obviously, need to set up rules for HTTPS inspection. Rather than filtering individual URLs, I decided not to faff about with games etc - I used some URL patterns. That way when new study hall/other game site brings out a new URL, if my existing patterns cover it off, it is automatically filtered, if not I just add one. Interestingly enough, it also filters their search results for these games too!

Looks good to me. The combat will be interesting - the changes will take away a bit of the boredom of the current "wait for a (!), tap B then X for a kill" but they will need to ensure there is some way of bringing balance to it so that you aren't killed all the time. 4 player co-op also sounds interesting, although finding 3 other people that also want to play at the exact same moment isn't always possible.

Hi folks A SIMS question: I have a need several times a year to generate a list of subjects currently taught in a particular year group. I'd like to be able to design/run a report with which I can select a year group and end up with a single list of subjects without picking through class codes/duplicates etc. Is this possible? For example, I'd like to end up after selecting, say, year 8 with a list that looks like: Art English Maths Science Technology ...etc I've searched on here and asked our SIMS guy and he can't think how to do it.

CC4UPD118 is relevant if they are using Windows 7. CC4UPD124 is the latest one that fixes printer delivery issues in general. My advice would be to ensure you're fully up to date on your CC4 updates. Remember to do them in the correct order, as per TEC1255704 in the RM knowledgebase.

Quick question, pre-purchase. Has anyone tried to deploy Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 on an RM CC4 network? If so, did it work?
