Eclipse2 or Eclipse.net

Got the option to either put Eclipse2 back or run Eclipse.net. What would you recommend if you use these library systems?

 

I know very little about Eclipse.net and what it requires to run, can't lay my hands on the documentation at the moment, so if somebody could fill me in on that too. Be appreciated!

We have Eclipse.Net. Use that. Only problems will our cur if you have diffrent yrs in a totour group.

It'll only be internal anyway, at least for the time being, so that won't be an issue.

It's dreadful and the implemention of Eclipse in it appears to drag it down in performance to below bearable levels. And the system requirements of a dual core processor etc with a gig of ram is a bit of a stretch for some of the more basic schools, and even then it's ruddy slow.

It isn't exactly speedy on a machine with twice the cores and twice the RAM either

We've stuck with Eclipse2. It's fast, reliable. I have had maybe one or two issues with it in the 5 years I've been at the school.

.NET is Ok, but by no means a speedy piece of software.

 

We've got it running on an old Dual CPU XEON and it maxes out both when running.

The good thing with .net you can let the students access it on any machine and over the internet. It really depends on what the school wants.

I replaced Eclipse 2 with .NET and found it relatively easy going. Switching from IE7 to a browser with faster rendering (FF 3.5 would be great) seemed to make a big difference on the client end. Our library staff used Athlon 64 X2 machines with 1GB ram and Windows XP and it ran fine.

 

On the server side, upgrading the database went without a hitch and we never noticed excessive load. That said, Eclipse 2 is also solid and if you have less demanding needs it's worth a look too.

Hmm, that's probably not a bad idea (trying FF 3.5). I'd probably get shot if anyone found out I'd installed Firefox on a CC3 network but as in most cases it'd only be a single machine I can't see it'd cause any issue.

Just a thought, but how much longer are MLS planning to support Eclipse 2?

Just had eclipse.net installed. we had heritage before.

 

I had pre-prepared the server with 2008std , sql2005 and making sure IIS was working. Took about 10mins for them to install the server software and a bit longer to sort out the clients and the sims interface and one minor issue that mls remoted in and fixed themselves.

 

pretty impressively straightforward.
