techie211 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 hey all, just wondering what some of you use to monitor your servers. I have several Win2k3 servers with the Dell Open Manage software and it's ok but I'd like to try others out there. Preferably free/open source. Any advise is appreciated.
powdarrmonkey Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Nagios, fiddly to set up but beautiful to watch.
bio Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 +1 for nagios here.. together with cacti you'll have a good solution bio.
Ric_ Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Nagios for me too... http://www.edugeek.net/wiki/index.php/Nagios I will be writing another guide when I get the time - Nagios configured with NagiosQL and using Nagvis for visualisation (think pictures of your server racks with little ticks to show they are working). 4
tmcd35 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I use Spiceworks and am having a look at 'The Dude'. Since it's written by a good friend, I suppose I should try a shameless plug for FreeNATS - FreeNATS: Free Network Automatic Testing System
plexer Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Groundworks here due to the ez config with the webadmin but going to look at nagioql as well now. Ben
techie211 Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 thanks for the replies fellas . does Nagios have an x86 installer or can a linux box be setup to monitor my Win2k3 servers?
techie211 Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 nagios can monitor just about anything. yes, but can it be installed on a windows box?
john Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Nagios for me too... http://www.edugeek.net/wiki/index.php/Nagios I will be writing another guide when I get the time - Nagios configured with NagiosQL and using Nagvis for visualisation (think pictures of your server racks with little ticks to show they are working). I can agree on those, Ric's pictures and info from his Nagios is amazing Love how his pictures are identical in every single way to his racks!!!
banksy Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Servers Alive, installs on windows no probs at all. Can monitor alot more than just the basic server, connected to a suitable mobile it can even txt you when something really bad happens. Can take along time to configure if you have alot of things to moitor, but well worth it.
box_l Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 spotlight for windows is pretty good too. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve Windows performance from Quest Software always impresses visitors to the network managers office. BoX 1
