IanT Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Im am sick and tired of running into Backup Exec problems, there a pain to resolve and I've now had enough of it! Are there any other products out better than Backup Exec?
Polski Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 NovaStor NovaBackup. Comes in all sorts of flavours, including workstation DVD backup, server/tape and web based. At one point you could set up your own web backup (ideal for pyramids!) but have not looked lately. Pretty good value too. There are UK suppliers, pm me if you need a contact.
Jamman960 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Data Integration Software - Data Protection Solutions - Disaster Recovery Software - Syncsort Software might be worth a look - it may way over your budget though
Batman Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I agree with Polski, NovaBackup is incredibly good software. It's simple to use and very reliable in my experience.
plexer Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Currently looking at R1Soft CDP server and also Microsoft DPM 2007. Ben
IanT Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 I downloaded Microsoft DPM 2007, gonna give it a try. Looks good from what I've seen. Ian.
ZeroHour Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I am tempted by DPM as well. Its that or backup exec again for us I think as I need hyper-v backups.
EduTech Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I am also looking at DPM, hopefully i will get round to playing with it more this week. James.
teejay Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 We moved to CA Arcserve, works really well. If you already have Backup Exec you can get competitive upgrades at a pretty good price. Demo version available to have a play.
john Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Im a Backup-Exec guy as I love it and had no problems with it, but DPM has been well worth thinking about as its not badly priced for education either.
laserblazer Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I never had any problems with NTBackup........... Do you do a scheduled backup to tape?
john Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 That is where I found it fell over when I used it hence the Symantec view I now have
Sylv3r Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 We use to suffer from a lot of Backup Exec issues, but in the last 12 - 18 months backups are generally pretty consistent.
superfletch Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I've used this in a number of primaries and really liked it, free 30 day trial, and a range of supported hardware to backup to. Depends how complex your backup needs are really. >> BackupAssist Backup Software - backup software for Windows servers, tape backup software, exchange server backup, sql server backup, internet Rsync backup, image backup
zag Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Never had a problem with backupexec to be honest, its run flawlessly for the last 4 years. Using 10d with all the latest patches(SP4).
Midget Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Do you do a scheduled backup to tape? I was using rotating hotswap harddrives at the time and had no problems
_techie_ Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yeah we use BackupExec, and its pretty good. Occasionally, had problems with backup to tape, but mostly through our own fault. We are looking to go to 12.5 and backup our VM's to a massive NAS soon. Should be a major improvment. :D
