Labelling Laptops

Has anyone found an un-peelable labeling system? We use a dymo label printer at the moment, which is great except the tape costs about £15 a roll, and we're currently going through a roll every few weeks relabelling laptops and laptop cabinets where the damned kids keep peeling them off.

 

Aside from etching the laptop number into the machine (which I don't want to do, because sometimes they get re-numbered as they move into different parts of the school) is there a kidproof way of labelling laptops?

I doubt it.

 

I am currently using avery tiplebond labels to barcode all of my assets. This has a very strong adhesive and the smaller labels come in a pack of 800 labels, 20 sheets of 40 labels for around £30.

I have got a Dymo Rhino and use permanent Polyester Rhino labels which I have had no problems with.

Our Technology department has a Laser Cutter... and they let us use it to mark the laptops with it.

 

It's a big improvement over the old system of soldering iron with a metal "stamp" on the end.... oh yes I did !

That's a good idea, our technology dept has two laser cutters so we could do the same thing.

 

We got some "proper" security marking kits and to be honest a marker pen is just as good, much less fiddly and looks much better afterwards.

What happens with the warrenty for your laptops? Has it ever been an issue that they were put under a laser?
